Re: Big Block Motor Mounts

67s didn't have big blocks, 68-71 has one style of mount and 72 has another. Pictures are on my other computer or I would post them. WES

Re: Big Block Motor Mounts

67-71 bb mounts had an upper that attached to the motor with a smaller lower piece ,with a frame towers kinda like the small block but had a bigger hole and different sitting . in 72 the big blocks went to the later clam shell motor mounts ,a completly different flater frame tower .

Heres a how to on using 73-87 mounts in a 67-72 truck. These mounts are cheap and plentiful.

Here are pics of the two types of BBC towers that were used in all 68-72 factory 396/402 2wd trucks, the 68-71 type are in the top pic and the 72's are in the bottom pic. Cb

Re: Big Block Motor Mounts

CSK shows the same motor mount for SBC and BBC. Imagine my surprise when I attempted to replace my 402 mounts. It grew to a horror show when I priced mounts at the GM dealer.

Re: Big Block Motor Mounts

I bought some motor mounts from performance online and they worked perfect. They had no issues with clearance with headers or anything. Also they looked better than stock, they are tubular in design and the polyurethane motor mounts were also available for an additional $50. I want to say that i paid around 150 for the complete set. Goto performanceonline.com.

Re: Big Block Motor Mounts

Thanks Guys for all the help. Do you just use 350 motor mounts with the 68-71 mounts? If I was to use the 72 do I have to modify my frame?

Re: Big Block Motor Mounts

I have removed a 396 from a 69 GMC which has motor mounts that look like the first picture shown, can I use the motor mounts in my 71 Chevy?

Absolutely. They are the correct mounts for a 71 model too and will bolt in without modification.

Re: Big Block Motor Mounts

Today I test fitted the 72 on my 67 and they do not line up right with the top frame rails and holes and then there is a 1/4" gap between bracket and frame rail.

It sounds like you might have 73-87 mounts rather than 72 big block mounts. They typically need a spacer between them and the frame rail to make up the gap.

They look extremely similar. Easiest way to differentiate between the two types is to count the number of ribs on them. 72 has one rib. 73+ has 2 ribs.

Re: Big Block Motor Mounts

Here are a few pictures of what I'm talking about. I mounted one the bolts to the cross memeber it is the only one that lined up. This occurs on both sides.

Re: Big Block Motor Mounts

They're definitely 72 big block mounts.

It does seem like I read in the past that 67's sometimes needed some slight frame mod to do this since they were never engineered to be factory big blocks. I'm out of my element here though, as I've had 3 big block trucks, a 69, a 70 and now a 72, never a 67 though.

Re: Big Block Motor Mounts

Doesn't the top rail need to be trimmed? As in narrowed so the top bolt holes will line up. Also,...if running headers,... you might want to test fit them so you can grind a little frame clearance.
