Brake Hose Questions

I have swapped a 72 disk brake front end into my 69 4x4 3/4ton w/ a 4'' lift, in place of the drum brake front end.
Now I can't seem to find the right length front brake hoses.
The old stock hoses for the drum brake front end were 26'' long.
The parts stores seem to all have 20'' hoses which are too short.

My questions are:
1. Do the front brake hoses on a 72 go through the frame in the same location as the 69, which is forward of the bump stop on the frame?

2. Has any one else experienced this problem?

3. What length are your 72 4x4 stock front brake hoses?

The 72 hoses go through the frame in a different location than the 69 hoses. I can take a pic tomorrow if you don't get a location before than.

I have not measured the disc hoses off of a 71-72 but 20" seems about right as the 69's are longer.

I would suggest checking with 4Wheel Drive parts company if you don't want to change the routing of your brake lines.They probably have a solution.Since they supply and install most types of lifts and tire combos for 4X4's they have probably solved this before.

I would rather run the front lines and hoses as the 72's are, since the calipers sit further back now than the old wheel cylinders did.

Here is a pic of the brake hose location on a 72 4x4 frame. The hose is 3 1/4" from the front bumper stop and 1" from the bottom of the frame. Measurements are to the center of the hole/hose.

You should be able to get custom braided hoses.

When I converted my stock axle to later model discs I was faced with the same challenge. For less than $100 I bought a 3-piece set of hoses from www.xtremecrawlers.com These are custom Crown braided stainless hoses:





And no, you don't have to get orange, I think there are about 10-12 color choices. I did end up re-plumbing the front hard lines because the stupid Tee fitting on the stock setup would not work with these. If I had been better able to identify the type of fitting I needed that might not have been necessary.

I think I will rerout my steel lines to the frame hole just above where the 72 hoses connect since my 69 has that hole already. That way I won't need such a long hose to reach the old hole in front of the bump stop. I'll also get the after market steel braided hoses in the proper length.

I did this yesterday. I was using 84 Calipers and axle parts. I got the hoses from Advance and they were to short. The lines go through just in front of the bump stop on 70's. I had to get extended hoses the ones I used were from Skyjacker and were 28.5" long from center of the banjo hole to end. They worked ok. I also had to grind the hole in the frame thinner so I could get the keeper to go on the end of the brake hose to keep it tight against the inside of the frame. It was not entirely fun but I got it done. I have left to do is Mount the Master Cylinder and bleed brakes.
I have had to scrounge for parts for this kind of hit and miss and lots of trips to Advance. The Skyjacker hoses were $115.00 form local 4x4 shop, you can probaly get them a little cheaper.

I see that Pro Comp & Classic Tube sell them as well as the others mentioned here so far.
Seems like the smallest part of this swap, the hoses, has been the bigest pain in the butt. At least I've figured it out now, thanks to all the help here.

Now I need to find a disk/drum proportioning valve. I had one that I was saving from a 72 blazer but I took it apart and found that is was shot.
I guess sitting in the shed for 20 years took its toll!

Just ordered the Skyjacker hoses from Summit for $99.00.
Any sugestions on where to find a Disk/Drum proportioning valve at a decent price?

When I ground the hole on mine I just thinned it down abit around the hole to let the fitting go through farther. They are nice hoses. As for the Prop valve if you want OEM you might watch Ebay the board or cal GM dealer.
