whose got cherry bombs?
Has anybody tried the Cherry Bomb Vortex? Wondering how it sounded compared to the usual suspects, ie flowmaster and magnaflow
Another Q: Last night i spent a lot of time reading here about exhaust in general. I learned for a mildly built 350, 2.5" exhaust is adequate. So for people who run 3" with a mild 350, is that done just for the sound? Can a 3" exhaust be too much for a mild 350? Last edited by jlaird; 11-23-2007 at 02:07 PM. |

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
Yes....you'll lose torque with bigger exhaust. 2.5" max is all you need.

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
i had 3.5 inch dual exhaust on my 60 chevy with flopro diesl mufflers on it when i bought it. it was loud and sucked for performanced. personally i would go to a 2.25 with a mild built motor. stock i would do 2".

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
I had the Vortex on my 92' K1500 and loved how it sounded!. It's made very well too.

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
I've got cherry's with 3"
It's prolly too big for my engine now, but I have plans for upgrades that will need the 3" |

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
Mine was pretty close to the same sound because when my truck was rear ended the exhaust shop replaced it with a 40 series flowmaster and it was basically the same sound. The Vortex was painted black and heavy duty made.

i have shorty dynomax headers, to 2.5" pipes to dual dynomax mufflers, sounds great.

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
Gotta agree - I just put 2.5" with flowmasters on mine today with a stock 350, and I probably should have gone 2.25" - I noticed a little less power- sure sounds nice though.

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
i've got a 2inch pipe on a gumped-up exhaust with thrush turbos. seems to work good for me, i did notice a little gain switching from glasspacks to the turbos.

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
for a mild/stock setup, i would go with absolutlely no more than 2.25 pipe with thrush turbos. mild/stock engines with cherries/flowmasters dont sound as good as turbo mufflers.

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
i got a 350 with performer intake/carb, headers and run dual 3 inch into dynomax bullets. i did it to have loud and legal because my dad made me ditch my cut outs. i lost so much torque from the 2-1/4" on the right, 2" on the left lol. i had it uneven but 2-1/4" seemed good and throaty.. powerful too, more than 2 inch

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
So popular consensus seems to be 2.25 for a mildly built 350...which makes me wonder what your guys definition of a mild 350 is. Probably somewhere between 300-350 hp??

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
I bet there would be alot of disapointment if alot of these so called 300 hp motors were on a dyno.I would not go over 2.5" dual exhaust.I have heard the vortex and they sound pretty dam good

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
I'm going to turbo's or flows. I can't hear when customers call me while I'm in the truck!! I have 18" glass packs right now. .30 over 350, stock internals,Weiand intake and edelbrock carb, HEI <-----the best upgrade you can do!

Re: whose got cherry bombs?
My '67 283 has an Summit K-1105 cam Advertised Duration: 282 int./292 exh. and it runs real nice. I'm running 2" pipes on it with stock type mufflers. Sounds good but I'd like it a bit more 'throaty'.
Would I benefit by going 2.25" or 2.5"? You guys say 2.5" is good on a 350 I just don't want to lose any torque. I want to go with some turbo mufflers but don't wanna irritate the neighbors every morning. What's a good deep toned muffler but not as noisy as Flowmaster 40s? Thanks, JD |
