shaved doors

i haved shaved my doors and im i have never installed door poppers and the silinoids before, will the inner door handles be usable or does that go away also when putting a door popper kit in? just wanted to make sure before i buy nice aluminum inner handles.will 45-50lb silinoids be enough?

Re: shaved doors

You can choose to leave the inner door handles on if you wish - just don't disconnect them. You can also put a button in the inside and use the solenoid to open the door. The solenoid hooks to the same mechanism that the outer and inner door handles are/were hooked to. You do not need poppers unless the door will not release when you operate the solenoid and you need an extra "push" to open the door.

Re: shaved doors

I'd say leave the inner door handles. I had a 2001 Dodge Dakota R/T I shaved everything on and it was a blessing I left the inner handles. I can now get into a Dakota in under 10 seconds with a coathanger....if that tells you something....Mikey

Re: shaved doors

I used a waterproof, keyed switch so I can turn of the power to the solenoids. I also use a mechanical cable hidden under the car/truck for emergencies (dead battery, lost remote, etc.)

Re: shaved doors

I have used power door lock solenoids on several of these trucks.I get late model GM "solenoids" at the junkyard. They arent really solenoids any more,I think they are called screw motors, but they do the same thing as a solenoid. If you keep the inside handles I believe you have to cut the solid rod that runs from the handle to the latch mechanism, and put in a flexible cable. I have never needed poppers on my doors. If the doors are adjusted correctley: the weatherstrip should put enough pressure on the door to pop it open.
