Spindle, hub & bolt pattern help
Ok I'm needing a few different things. First, I need new wheels/tires if you haven't read my other thread. I have a Ford 9" rear end so it's 5x4.5 in the back. Second, I'm also needing to lower the front with spindles/coils. So here's what I'm wanting to do. Get lowered spindles, get new hubs that are 5x4.5, get new rotors that are 5x4.5 or have them redrilled so that I can run a 5x4.5 wheel in the front to match the back. When you do a spindle swap you have to remove and reinstall the hubs/rotors anyway correct? So why not install 5x4.5 hubs/rotors so I can order some wheels/tires. And instead of modifying my really old 1984 hubs/rotors I figured I'd get all new stuff while I'm at it. While doing this, is there anything out there that would be an upgrade to the stock parts that are a direct replacement? Like slotted rotors? And if so would it be worth it? Discuss.
Here's my thread on what wheels I'm trying to run. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=264917 These are the wheels.

Re: Spindle, hub & bolt pattern help
Better off getting big chevy axle end plates and 5X5 axles for the ford 9". Actually why do the bolt patterns need to match? You will never rotate tires and the wheels should be available in both bolt patterns. Just get what you need.

Re: Spindle, hub & bolt pattern help
You apparently would be surprised of how hard it is to find a light weight racing wheel in 5x5. The back 5x4.5 is not the problem it's the front. I can find all kinds of wheels that'll work for the back. Try to find that same wheel in 5x5 though. I can give you a list of companies that don't offer 5x5 in light weight racing wheels, one being the wheel pictured above. 5x4.5 or 5x4.75 ONLY
Edit... and I already have heavy duty Moser axles and Strange spool invested in this.

Re: Spindle, hub & bolt pattern help
SulphurDave,... The problem with redrilling, or buying rotors with a 4.5 bolt circle,... is the front hub itself. The part that the bearing dust cover attaches to. A wheel with a 4.5 inch BC will most likely have too small of a center hole to go over the center of the rotor. You could swicth the front to a Mustang II style crossmember, (like the Fatman Fabrication one),... but thats alot of work/ money to gain the correct BC. I agree it would be cheaper/easier to switch the rearend to 5 on 5. Talk to Billet Specialties. The can make any wheel, with any bolt pattern, in BILLET. I know this isn't a light weight racing wheel like the Billet Specialties forged one you posted.

Keep it simple . . ..... Go w/the 5 x 4.5" for the rear & 5 x 4.75" for the fronts. Re-drill some stock 'style' front rotors & turn the hubs down as needed (if needed) to fit the inside wheel hub dimensions. If you're worried about a spare for flats on the road, carry 1 dual-bolt pattern wheel (car patterns: GM/5x4.75" & FoMoCo/5x4.5") as your spare. Nice choice in wheels BTW .

Re: Spindle, hub & bolt pattern help
What about upgrading to some sort of big brake kit in the front that will also change the bolt pattern to 5x4.5? I know Wilwood makes a drag race front hub kit / big brake upgrade w/ OE spindle. Wonder if one would work for our trucks?
