What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition 11/25
I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Thanksgiving. Since most of you had a long weekend, I will assume once the overeating of turkey was done you might have actually worked on your truck.
I let my crew off so they could go try to shoot Bambi's Daddy, and take advantage of some of the Black Friday specials. Meanwhile I worked, and tried to chase down some rather elusive 3" donut gaskets. I thought I had them located when my bro-in-law called Excel Parts and they said they had a set. I went to will call to pick them up only to find they actually had 2.5" not 3". CRAP! I was headed to a muffler shop to see if they might have some when I stopped at a "real" autoparts. You know the old fashioned kind where they know what a part is without looking it up. And when you tell them it fits a 63 Corvette with a fuel injected 327, they don't peck at their computer then ask "2wd or 4wd". Anyway, I went to install them today and that was great fun. When I pulled the old ones almost all of the studs backed out of the manifold. The only way to get them back in was to drop the Y-pipe put all the studs in place, then hang the y-pipe again. Sounds pretty simple huh. Trust me, it's not. The disadvantage of running 3" Ramhorn manifolds is they are a "really" tight fit. I thought I was going to have to pull the freakin motor, but I finally got all of the studs snugged down.... What did you get done?

I chased my electric gremlins around in my 85. I think I found the last one hiding in my oil pressure sending unit. It will be replaced tomarrow. Tomarrow "Brown" should bring my new trim rings.

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition 11/25
Finally got my 6.0 lq9! My buddy in Houston and his family drove over. He told me about the motor awhile back, I said heck, bring it. He said he thinks it has a bent rod...
I dropped the oil pan today, and ouch, broken rod and cracked piston, and some cylinder wall scratches and a little gouging. I was a little depressed. I called him up and let him know, he said he will find another one in running condition. I really can't complain, for the price, it has heads, water pump, coil packs. Not sure if the block is worth saving or not. I really don't want to drop a ton of ca$h on a rotating assembly. I'll wait for another to come along. I know he'll pull through for me. Other than that, cleaning house after a weeks worth of company.

I got my tool box organized. It took 3 hours. I found all the tools I thought I had lost. Nothing else to do on a cold and rainy day in Texas.

Well after 31 years with the city of phoenix in the civil engineering field I accepted a severance package for early retirement, so last Monday was my final day, now time to find another job, part-time at least.

Replaced a leaky left valve cover gasket - trying to finish installing WBO sensor module.
Spent time with my in-laws. Did not watch any games on tube. //RF

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition 11/25
I'm still going through the 86 C10 I picked up a couple of weeks ago.I lost count of the bulbs I've replaced.Painted the cluster housing silver while apart.Replaced leaking valve cover gaskets. That turned into a major affair. The vacuum harness was brittle and crumbled. So the air pump and stuff are now resting in a box.I did find a mess when I lifted the valve covers.Seams the missed a couple of oil changes through the yaers. So VERY carefully with a 1 gal shop vac.Clean as much as I dared.Changed oil.I'll change oil & filter again in 500 miles. Then 1500 miles. But I'll be dropping the pan in the future anyway to replace the rear main.Next on the list is getting a different carb and possibly intake.Don't need this feedback unit. And exhaust.

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition 11/25
Wednesday evening - went to return the Honda Civic I've been driving for the past couple of months to it's rightful owner, who came back into town. Of course, the dash, parking, license plate and tail lights all decided to poop out on the way up to drop it off, so she had to bring it back on Saturday to troubleshoot.
Thursday - drove forever, ate, drove forever home Friday - hung out with the kid all day since the wife had to work. That was a good day. Saturday - a gazillion people came to the house to eat and stuff. Spent most of that time in the driveway trying to figure out the electrical gremlins in the Honda Sunday - Titans lost embarrassingly bad to the Bengals, continued chasing electrical gremlins in the Honda. Ended up getting my butt kicked by the stupid Honda. I think maybe I have it narrowed down after spending a lot of time tucking my 6'5" and 240 lbs under the dash of a Civic that's smaller than my average poop. |

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition 11/25
It was cold and rainy the entire time. I had planned to go hunting with my dad but that fell through because of the rain. After eating college cafeteria food for a semester, the home cooked food was a real treat.
I did work on the truck though. I connected the vacuum ball to the intake for the A/C and heater up so the heater and defroster would work if I needed it with the arrival of the cold weather. Last edited by Pyrotechnic; 11-28-2007 at 02:14 PM. |

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition 11/25
Built a 4'x8' porch on my house with my pops. I think it looks good for being a temporary porch for my prego wife during the winter. Was a good father-son project and only took about a day and a half.

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition 11/25
Friday I had to fight to pull my y-pipe off my Jimmy so I could finish routing the fuel lines up to the TPI. I got the EFI lines together and made them match a little better. Hopefully putting them in soon.
Saturday I cleaned up the garage some so I could find everything again.

Re: What did you get done? Thanksgiving edition 11/25
For one thing I had way to much food, But did get one day to work on the blazer. I orderd 100'sf of B-Quiet sound deadening and it came in on Friday so I started on it ASAP. It was very easy to work with, but it takes a long time to do just the front of my blazer and now I have to do the back.
Here is a shot.. Trav
