why do people go back on their word....
ok i had found a 70 c10 and after talkin to the owner we agreed on payments of 500 a month till payed off(which i might add is a pretty hefty amount a month for a burger flipper...) well that was 20 days ago that we agreed on that and i put the first 500 down that day too. So i get a call from him today saying that unless i can come up with another 500 by Wednesday that hes gonna sell the truck to someone else and just give me the cash back. This irks me off to no end. not only did i pass up a couple other good trucks to start paying on his, but now its been 3 weeks and im back at square one with finding a truck. ARRG!

Re: why do people go back on their word....
He should have never agreed to do payments in the first place. Personally I could never accept a payment plan from someone for a vehicle. Apparantly he can't either, but he should have never agreed to it.
Sorry about the hard luck. You'll find one eventually. |

Re: why do people go back on their word....
Maybe he talked to his wife??
Seriously though, if you didn't get it in writing then oh well. Personally, unless it was a new car and a legit loan, you should be weary of making payments like that, even if it means you got to wait a few more months or so until you can save up the money. |

Re: why do people go back on their word....
Apparently, none of the agreement was in writing?

Re: why do people go back on their word....
Is it possible to get a loan from your bank? You could always put the 500.00 you gave him to a downpayment. At leat then you would have the truck you want and the the payments would be lower to the bank. Just a thought

Re: why do people go back on their word....
Sorry to hear about your situation, but maybe it wasn't meant to be. You'll find the right truck. In the future be certain to get everything in writing so you don't end up getting screwed. I've heard stories of people doing this and not only did they not get a vehicle, but they were also out the money paid. It will all work out.

Re: why do people go back on their word....
its ashame it has to go that way , just get youre cash back (at least he wants to give it back to you ) and safe up those 500 a month untill you can pay for a truck in full .
only borrow from a bank if you can pay it back within a year INCLUDING DRIVING THE TRUCK ITSELF that costs money too you know

Re: why do people go back on their word....
If this guy failed to keep his promise then you are much better off. Lord only knows what else he isn't being truthful about ie: there may be hidden problems with the vehicle or possible DMV problems! Count you blessings and find a better truck.

Re: why do people go back on their word....
BTW, How do I know this? I let a guy do the same thing, but he wasn't making the payments on time. I went and got my car, and it got ugly. I had to jump through hoops to get my own car back, even when he wasn't doing me right. After that, I'll never finance another one.

Re: why do people go back on their word....
i think you're both at fault him for agreeing and you for trying to buy without having money to do the deal// save up and when you have enough buy or if you must buy now get a $500 truck that you can afford

Re: why do people go back on their word....
I'm trying to sell a vehicle now, and several people have asked me to take payments. The answer is NO!Just too many hassles and nightmares. Talk to a loan officer, they are willing to help you draw up a finance plan you can afford. And stay away from predatory lenders.

Chalk it up to life lessons, sometimes they make no sense to you. Your only 20 and going to see a lot worse happen in your life. Be happy he is giving you your money back. I bet a better truck comes your way now. Karma is in your favor.

Not having anything in writing is a bad way to go because it is just your word against his and vice-versa. If he offered your money back I would run over and get it. Then save the $500 a month until you can pay in full. Consider it a lesson learned. BtW why did you post for advice after the fact and not before. As you can see we all seem to agree it wasn't a good idea. JMHO.

Re: why do people go back on their word....
for what it's worth he didn't take possession of the truck yet.
I have the same opinion as some of the others here. it was a shady deal and probably would have turned bad later on. at least he is giving you your money back. |

Re: why do people go back on their word....
Sorry to hear this. It is better in the long run though. You could probably do all the suggested things, but it would be more grief than it is worth. "Something good comes to those who wait" is my motto. You've had enough greif lately. There is a truck out there for you, just not this one.
To answer you're question, some people just don't believe in their word anymore. Its really kinda sad. Sometimes thats all you got.

Re: why do people go back on their word....
yea it was in writing and if i wanted to be a jerk about it i could still get the truck.... but why bother though you know? if its gonna be like this the entire time i try paying on it i dont want to bother. the only problem with getting a loan for a truck through a bank is i already have a loan out on a car(long story but in short my now fiance's car) and im only 20 so chances of me getting another loan is slim to none. just stinks and pisses me off that someone cant keep their word just cuz they need the money faster and was to dull to realize that in the begining.

Re: why do people go back on their word....
I'd consider buying a decent POS car for cheap & drive it while you save up cash to position yourself for the good deal when it comes along. I know you have been thru hell you didn't deserve, hang in there
