i found what looks like a 70 short bed c10 custom next to a barn yesterday. it looks like its been there for a long time thou. it needs front fenders, theres no box and its full of trash. the interior is gone too. if i could get it for nothing, is it worht saving?

If you have a place for it, I would say go for it. I see trucks all the time that I could probably get very cheap, I even got offered a '69 lwb half ton for free, but I just don't have anywhere to put them. Heck, guys are selling frames only for short beds.

Define "worth". If your intention is to flip it and make a couple nickels.....the answer is-maybe. Without knowing the condition of what you're looking at and a realistic assessment of your timeline, facilities, skill-set, and budget it's hard to say if your on the losing end of a money making endeavour or not.
However, if you, like many on this board, have this unexplained sickness that drives us to pursue these trucks and invest countless dollars and hours into making them like we want them just for s#*t's and giggles, with no concern about whether we get our money out of them- then Hell's Yeah, it's worth saving!

Anyway, just a cab and frame? I'd say no unless it's a parts truck. Free you say? Would be worth selling the cab/frame if they are good. Finding/buying all the parts (bed, clip) could get pricey fast. Does it have a motor or tranny that are worth keeping in it?

If the cab is solid it would be a great start for a shorty project.

To some people in the hobby, if it isn't shiny and all pretty, it is a peice of crap.

Nevermind the fact that said shiny vehicle could be loaded with Bondo and cheap thin replacement panels....

Sure its worth it --- short bed frames have a good salvage value for people wanting to convert their long beds.

You could have a drag truck project -- a good basis for a frame-off resto.(since most of it is gone now anyway)

A lot of us have restored complete trucks and wound up having to replace the bed and fenders anyway.

Also, look at project Copperhead from the TV show "Trucks". Stacy David built the whole thing with aftermarket sheetmetal, except for the cab, just to show it could be gone.

A complete aftermarket bed with wood is around 3k - front sheetmetal might cost another g-note. Condition of the cab is important -- rusted floors and rockers are do-able, but rust above the windshield or in the cowl area is often a big no-no

But as said, 3 or 4k on a new bed and fenders is a drop in the bucket compared to the $$ a lot of people on this board have in their completed chariots

There are people today, who have what we are trying to find, only because they snapped up all that came their way and was priced right. At this point in time, those parts vehicles are scarce. Kinda like when you could still find a T-body, in the early 70's....like I did (and later got rid of).

Anybody remember GeeEmm's truck up in Canada? If you saw what he started out with you'd think he was a magician! There have been alot of projects on here that started out like swiss cheese.

67ChevyRedneck, you'd be surprised. Both rear fenders....rot, inner fenders.....rot, rockers (both sides) SERIOUS....rot, all 4 cab corners....rot, both front floor pans...rot. Luckily, we were able to save the cigarette lighter.

i believe ALL 67-72 CHEVY'S SHOULD BE SAVED why make honda's and toyota's out of them and if u shop around u can find part's very resonable u just have to look i found a complete 72 gmc front nose fender's and all for less than $200
