knocking coming from the front wheel

today i just put a brand new set of wagon wheels and 275/60/15 tire on my truck. i took it down the street and i started to hear and feel a knocking sound coming from the front passenger side wheel. when i applyied the brakes, it stopped and smoothed out but it would start again when i let off the brake. like i said, the wheels and tires are new. i also changed the wheel bearings a few weeks ago, but there was none of this going on. could the lugs be loose? what do yall think?

Re: knocking coming from the front wheel

The lugs would be my guess or a wheel bearing. Since you just replaced the bearings check the lugs first.

Re: knocking coming from the front wheel

if you think lugs are loose take lug wrench and tighten

jack up that wheel use jackstand and grab tha tire and twist and turn and see if something is hitting or loose// did you use a cotter pin when you did bearings, is there clearance between tierod and wheel ,is there clearance between control arms and wheel, is there clearance between tire and fender

Re: knocking coming from the front wheel

i used a cotter pin. i did remember trying to spin the rotor around with the wheel off. i was hard to turn in one spot and then it would spin around till it got to that on spot again. ill give it a look.

Re: knocking coming from the front wheel

If you have disks could be the pad hitting a high spot on the rotor making it make a noise.

Re: knocking coming from the front wheel

Is it knocking on turns or on straightaways too?

Re: knocking coming from the front wheel

Why don't you jack the front of the truck up and spin the wheel? You should be able to find the noise like that. You didn't tell if it is drum or disc. Check the back spacing and the wheel run-out. Look for shiny spots also.

If you over torque it you might have made it to tight so you might would want to get you a torquer that beeps we have one in autotech and we put the nut on with our fingers so it wont cross thread and then we use the air gun then we tighten with a torquer. hope theres some mechanics on here that can tell you cause its kinda hard to explain
