Ignition guys: My '88 4.3 dist and rotor

Reading a post on here a minute ago reminded me of this: 4/5 months ago I replaced the cap and rotor on my truck (plugs/wires were new). When removing the old rotor I noticed it was split down the side. When I went to put the new rotor (Delco) on, it would not slide down on the shaft. I took it back and we checked several other boxes and all were the same. I finally forced it down on the shaft and it split in exactly the same place the old one was split.

This kind of makes me think the distributor was changed out at one time or another, so I'm hoping one of you may know about a distributor that is interchangeable with the original but has a slightly larger diameter shaft.

BTW: the truck runs great. It didn't really need the new cap/rotor, just did it as part of the tune-up.

Thanks.

Well, call me crazy, but it is either aftermarket gone bad or someone had to make due with what they had at the time. If you want to keep that same dizzy my best advice would be to check for part numbers (take it out if you can't find it any other way) and/or, take it into your local autoparts store and have them identify it.

I ran a franken-dizzy in my truck for almost a year because I couldn't afford a new one.....and you'd be amazed what parts can be 'made' interchangable.

Keep it and work with it, or spend $100 for a new dizzy.....

Yeah, I figure it's been changed out. The truck runs great so I guess if it works don't mess with it. I'll pull the distributor the next tune-up.

Hey- you're from "Sorry" Vista. Was stationed at Huachuca for a while in '67 and went back and forth to different schools in the '70's. Used to drive that back road behind the high school to Tombstone almost every night; had a favorite little bar over there.

Thanks for the response.
