Quick disc brake question

I just put on gmcpaul's disc kit. Should the pads be tight inside the caliper the first time or do they get that way after use? There's only a slight bit of play, maybe 1/16th of an inch -- tops.

You should be able to pump the pedal a few times (run the engine if you have power brakes) and it will take out the slack. Make sure you bleed them!
