Vibration

I have a vibration in my 79' when I get up to speed on the highway, it's not the wheels or tires. (I just got those replaced.) someone told me it could be my cab or bed mounts, anyone have any ideas before I go and start tearing apart my truck to find out?

Re: Vibration

well the first place id look is the driveshaft either a worn u joint or bad carrier bearing.. if it feels more to one wheel then it would be either out of balance or thewheel bearings is your truck 2 or 4 wd
i have a bad cab bushing and it causes no vibration

Re: Vibration

If you just got your tires replaced, it could be balanced wrong or might have thrown a weight?

Re: Vibration

Try swapping front tires and see if the vibration moves with it. You may have a bad tire from the factory. I work as a tire tech and about 1 in every 60 or 70 tires turns out to be a bad one, out of round, etc. More so in truck tires than car tires.

Re: Vibration

I've actually alraedy tried that and the problem still persists. Maybe I need to be more clear its not a slight vibration the cab will rattle your fillings out..... well maybe I'm stretching a little bit but you get the idea.

Re: Vibration

Thank you for being so bold, I was just telling them that my tires have nothing to do with it. I will check everything that you recommended tomorrow. =)

Re: Vibration

A worn out or improperly set up rear end will vibrate.

An unbalanced driveshaft or worn out U joints will vibrate.

An engine with balance issues will vibrate.

On my 78 I had a worn out improperly set up rear end and an engine with some weird vibrations. Had the rear end rebuilt and eventually replaced the motor and all was good.
