another trans question
got a few more quick ones....a buddy of mine at work has an 82 chevrolet silverado.lwb...that he is stripping down..it is all stock and never been touched...other than the engine....its a 355 with the factory 4 speed..(it is a NO granny 4 speed.( i also measured his trans at 21 inches mine now is about 17)...any ways i have been having lots of trouble. with finding the correct 3 speed for my 67...its a 250 3speed on the floor.... i know there have been some trans threads but i didnt know if the later model stuff will work(i know it will bolt up but?... i am thinking of running the 82 four speed trans,shifter..everything from it...behind my 250... can i use his drive shaft? if not thats ok....(i can have it sent out to be cut down)...also do i have to run a trans crossmember? basically i can have anything i want of the truck..... but i am buying the engine and trans really cheap....any help would be awsome............thanks tony......

Re: another trans question
I've got access to one from a '64 Chevy..If I can get under it I'll see if it'll work...4 speeds (Not the granny first gear type!) are fun in these trucks..Leave the granny low 4spds to the 4wds or the 3/4 or one tons though!

Re: another trans question
cool to leave mine as a close to original set up it should measure 17 inches.....to keep from cutting my drive shaft.....i am going to buy the 355/4speed and whatever else i might need..... i can get it all for a 100 dollars....so i think its money well spent.....i would just like to use the 82 setup.....i have four trans now...two 3speeds and 2 four speeds....but i dont have the correct bellhousing...from what i have been told..........

Re: another trans question
is that 82 trans a overdrive with a hydralic cluch?i think that if it is anything other than a granny 4speed you will have to remove your crossmember and use one from an automatic trans truck. i may have the 3speed you need in a 67 that i plan on putting a 4 speed in

Re: another trans question
well it looks as if my 4speed deal is falling through free turned into alot more so lol forget it.....my step dad just found a 67 three speed....from what i have seen gm made three differnt style 3speeds in these truck. i don t have pictures to proove yet, but i will... i have looked at 4 different 67s and 3 had the same trans and one had one that is a cross between mine and the ones i have ..<it bolts the same as mine as far as two bolts going into the bellhousing and two into the trans....the one my step dad braught me ,i think will work...im just going to have my driveshaft cut or find the needed driveshaft....the input shafts seem the same.....its wearing me thin.. but it has been a great learning experiance, and hell thats been worth it....thanks for all the help and any more help you can give would be awsome..thanks ..........tony

Re: another trans question
nah i got two of those and one 4 speed with out....i was looking to find my original set up. but i have looked at ,at least 10 trucks with three speeds and all where different than mine....i even looked at some pre 67.s and a few early 60s... mine is weird it only measures 18 inches long while others i have seen are about 21/7/8s so????i just got a 3speed from a 67 swb. that is very close to mine ,but i will have have my driveshaft cut down...or find the right one....i dont know the length yet...that i will need when i switch to the 21/7/8s trans?????
