Look at this wood bed
Is this bed installed over the steel floor?. The auction says the bed was shortened 3". I've never had a wood bed so I don't know alot about them but he did a good job if it's home made.

Re: Look at this wood bed
its a truck, -- the heat/ac control block plate is ugly. high back seats look wrong, but those can be changed
on the flip side, color / stance are nice and the top chop looks pretty good -- i kind of like the slightly shorter bed look -- its not too extreme, just enough to make you look at it twice I love the line about it being restored and modified --- which always makes me ask, "which is it? Restored or modified?" If he lived in Murfreesboro, TN, he would be trying to get at least a quarter mil. for that truck |

Re: Look at this wood bed
Here are a couple more pics of his bed which seems like alot cheaper than the Show Deck that sells for over $1000. I know this is just screwed to the steel floor but I think it looks pretty good even though the wood slats are wider. Any opinions on cheating this way?

Re: Look at this wood bed
He musta got a deal on that paint...
I wold chip the wood everytime I slid something into my bed withthat setup, and it will retain moisture under the wood.

Re: Look at this wood bed
That Truck doesn't look right. The back window is different. The bed wood does look nice but you can see the metal bed underneath.

Re: Look at this wood bed
I think it look's Good for What it is, It would be Fairly Cheap to Do like he Did it. The Wood appears to be Plain old Pine Boards & Just Some alum Channel.
Would make a Good Mod if Your Bed is IN Bad Shape............. Rick

Re: Look at this wood bed
I saw that truck in person over the summer at a PIR cruise in. Overall I thought the quality was not very good. I only took "20-footer" pics because that's all that looked 1/2 way decent... Another guy was looking at it at the same time I was and said to me "Shame isn't it?"
I usually don't talk down other peoples work like that, but it just didn't look good. And to stick to the point of the thread, I thought the bed wood was one of the worst aspects of it. Last edited by Frizzle Fry; 12-11-2007 at 01:08 AM. |

Re: Look at this wood bed
I agree with toomanytoyz, looks like a good mod if your bed is in bad shape and you are trying to dress it up. From the pics the truck looks like a good deal for 7 grand. I always wondered what a bed would look like making a home made version of the Bruce Horkey show deck!. He should have used better quality wood at least.

Re: Look at this wood bed
Now that you mentioned Bruce Horkey, can I get some feed back on his product (Showdeck)? I have not had the opportunity to see one installed in person. I am currently trying to decide which direction to go with my bed. I do not want to make a costly mistake.

Re: Look at this wood bed
Wow... Ebay is dragging some interesting looking trucks out of the woodwork..
My bed floor was pitted so I stared doing body work to the bed floor.... That didnt last long so heres what I did in my bed... It cost me around $50.00 and I get alot of compliments on it... Its all vinyl wrapped wood I cut out.. It matches the interior of the truck too... Sorry pics are poor quality..
