The other day there was a big storm and a tree branch fell on my 72 GMC. It dented the top of both sides of the bed rails (Long bed BTW). I took it to my insurance and they estimated the damage at $1150, minus my $500 deductable, I'll be getting the $650.

So here's the delima, the 72 GMC is for sale. I was asking like $7500 for it with not a lot of interest.

Also keep in mind I have a 68 Chevy sitting in the garage that I'm doing a frame off on.

So I figure I have a few options.

-Don't fix it, lower the price on the GMC and sell it as it is now
-Have it fixed and continue trying to sell it.
-Get new shortbed fenders, cut the frame, make it into a short bed, repaint and sell it for more.
-Cut the longbed fenders into shortbed and same as above

The thing is, I have limited time, it's taken me 5 1/2 months to get to where my 68 is now....so it's going slow.

What do you all think, any other suggestions?

depends on how bad the dents are --- and obviously, i'd get a 2nd opinion over what the adjuster said too, its almost a 40 year old truck

i still cant believe you havent sold that thing yet - have you tried - (shudder) ebay? with a $7000 reserve or something?

You have a very nice truck for someone who needs a good driver, thats for sure

Do you have any pics of the damage?
I would question the insurance quote, TriPlus bed parts or NOS Bed sides are spendy, get some other estimates and challange the estimate.

How much trouble is it to find another long bed? If the bed is all that is damaged, seems to me that replacing the bed is your call. I wonder how close to "right" the estimate actually is. You know that not fixing it is going to cost you more than the insurance estimate, relative to your asking price. Nobody is going to want to pay you what you were asking, minus the estimate, knowing they will have to repair it and paint it to get it back to where it was. I'm gonna hazard a guess that you'd be lucky to get half of your original asking price without doing any repairs. As for the modifications to the chassis, bed, etc., you know you're gonna spend a lot more to make it a short bed. How many projects can you do at one time?
