Re: not starting....

If your cables are good & the engine is grounded good & the battery is strong
it is a problem with the starter &/or selenoid. Is the click loud & comeing from the starter area? If so it,s time to pull it off.

Re: not starting....

clean with sandpaper andor wire brush both ends of both battery cables and the places they attach to then reassemble with a smear of dielectric grease on each connection
amazin things happen with clean electrical connections

Re: not starting....

As stated above I'd make sure your ground is good. Where is your - batt cable connected to? Just because it is new doesn't mean you have a good ground.

Re: not starting....

I recently had the same problem with my '77 GMC dump truck with a 427.

I replaced both cables and made sure I had good clean connections and the problem went away.

It looked like the cables were the original ones and actually undersized for their length.

Re: not starting....

If you have checked the connections and they're ok, my vote would be for a bad solenoid. When mine was started to go out it would click loudly when you started the truck. Have you tried bypassing the solenoid with a screwdriver? If that gets it to start then you've found the problem.

Re: not starting....

new battery, like i said. very clean posts. the ground is to the alternator bracket (the original place?)

Pretty sure its the solenoid. I bet it got too hot. isnt that a pretty common problem? thats what ive always heard. Im thinking baout going to a mini high torque starter
