Help. My steering box is not original. A piece of angle iron has been welded to the top of the frame and two holes have been burned into the frame to mount that box. I got the old box off, and I have a two wheel drive box from a 69, but it doesn't match any of the stock holes. Whats the deal. What does a 4x4 steering box look like on a 67. Can I fill the burned in holes with weld w/out hurting the frame? Thinking I need to box that section in to make it stable again, but don't really know what to do. Any suggestions would help out alot, as I am in a pickle.

Some of the 67 owners have replaced the front section of the frame from a donor 69-72 4x4 frame
which allows them to bolt up the integral power steering box. (The 67 trucks had a power assist cylinder instead of the integral power steering box.

My suggestion would be to obtain the horn section for that side of the frame and install it as others have done. It does not appear to be too big of a project.

You didnt say whether the steering box in question is power or manual.
My 68 manual steering box has the pitman shaft exiting the box horizontally. The frame is flat not dimpled. It also has the closed knuckle front diff.
Later power steering trucks have a dimple in the frame to accomidate the steering box bulge and the pitman shaft exits vertically.
If you have an open knuckle diff, there is a thread on the conversion to power steering boxes on flat frame trucks. I don't have the link, just do a search & I think you will find what you need.

the steering box is manual, the frame is undimpled and I have closed knuckle differential. I guess I need to figure out what i want to do, whether upgrade to power steering or keep the manual. The box that is on the truck exits horizontaly, but the 69 box exits out the bottom. It is weird.
