502 big block?

Has anyone put a 502 big block in there 67-72 chevy? I have a 70' k10 that i want to put a big block in. i have a chance to get a 502 right now but can't find a decent priced 454 to buy and put in. How much harder is it to stuff a 502 in there? thanks

Re: 502 big block?

All the big blocks have the same outside dimensions and all the small blocks have the same outside dimensions. It's the crank, rods, pistons and cylinder bore that changes to make the different sized engines.

If you have room for a 396 then you have room for a 402,427,454,502,576
same goes for the small blocks. If a 283 will fit then so will a 305,307,327,350,400 or any combination of each family.

So to answer your question,,, Yes a 502 will fit.

Seems like your questions was answered if it will fit but I have one now. Who do you know that spent 10K on a 400hp 350 and how did they accomplish that? No offense but thats just stupid or they built it about 3 times? I could see 10K on 550hp pump gas 7000 rpm 350.

Re: 502 big block?

I put a 502 on to the L6 stands, I beefed them up and used later type mounts. I had to cut the firewall on the drivers side, it's real close on the passenger side. I had to use a MSD distributor to clear also.

WOW $10,000 for a 350 I'm spending about $4000-$5,000 for a complete 402BB/350-375hp rebuild and I thought that was high.

None. It came from factory with BB 402 (this is a 2 wheel drive PU).

Re: 502 big block?

Just so you know there is quite a few people on here that put big blocks in 4x4's. We've all run into little problems. Some not much at all. But don't be surprised to have to modify the firewall or some poeple have used body lifts for valve cover clearance and some are able to fit HEI but it wouldn't fit for me. I used 2wd exhaust manifolds for '71 BB and just had to shave some nubs but fit well. If you have any specific question just ask. Someone on here has run it to it before.
