How Rare?

hey guys, my buddy has got this old '72 GMC sierra GRANDE thats he gunna part out...its beyond restoration.

however there are still solid parts on the truck..

he is into the 80's Chevy trucks, so he started asking me (because im into 67-72) how much he could get for some parts, and weather some are worth pulling off.

8 bolt ORIGINAL STOCK power disk brakes up front, (including all brackets)?

tilt colun...in good shape (i said it was worth pulling)?

the tool box & door inside the bed ( like the camper special box)?

second of the duel fuel tanks (very good shape.)?

what do you guys think? it also has a factory duel battery setup...

also he was telling me that the truck came STOCK with a dana 70 and 4.10 gears.

i thought dana was dodge shed some light of that subject?

Re: How Rare?

It would be a Dana 44 if its a 1/2 ton and a Dana 60 if its a 3/4 ton, but yes they came factory in Chevys/GMC's.

Re: How Rare?

Just reread your post, and you said 8 lugs, so that would be a Dana 60. I have a '67 GMC with a 4.10 geared Dana 60.

Re: How Rare?

do you have pictures? dana 60 was stock rearend in 3/4+ trucks, but 72 could have came with 14 bolt, also. tool box and inside box are definitely worth pulling as well as tilt column. Glove box door, too. Post some pictures and everyone on here will let you know what's worth pulling and what's not. hope this helps and you have a pm. thanks

The Dana 44 and Dana 60 rear pans are very close in size, but if you have floating axles, you have Dana 60's. The Dana 44 only came in 6 lug 1/2 tons.

Very rare chance to see a 14 bolt in a 72..I've never seen any..If one had it,it would be a late model year produced truck.I think wibilly is talking front diffs..but the rear would be a DANA 60.

Re: How Rare?

I've never head of ANY 14 bolt rears stock.
The common rear is the Eaton/corp HO52 in 3/4 tons.
The tilt is worth a butt load (look on the parts board, there's almost always at least one a week)
The tool box door (nothing to do with the custom camper package) if it is rust free, if worth what ever you want it to be if it is a true virgin piece.
the Aux Battery tray.... I think someone sold wone for 300 last year onhere... but there's an 'assemble yourself kit' aux batt tray... I wanna say it was goin for something like 1/2 that? (I hope someone has the link for this)

Re: How Rare?

$300 for an aux.battery tray?!!!That was a fluke.I missed that one.They go for $75-100 in solid condition.I haven`t seen a reproduction.
The tool & stoage compartment door goes for $300-325 "if" rustfree.I doubt this one is since truck is beyond restoration.
Automatic truck tilts go for Around $300 or less($175),depending on condition.
Dana 60 is worth $100,if it`s the taller ratio(above 4.10)it`s worth double or more.
The front end parts are worth about $100,if there`s interest.

What condition are the dash bezel and glovebox door applique woodgrain? The SierraGrande rear quarter scripts and front fender badges?I`d like to make an offer on all that if he has those pieces.
Also, how are the grille pieces? The fender brows and top bar on hood are worth something.I`d be interested in those, also.

Re: How Rare?

unfortunatly, there are not many trim badges left. i have only seen the truck a handful of times, but i remember the grill to be white...and in very good shape, (needs to be refinished, but no rust or anything like that)

ill see if i can get some pictures for you guys and post em up.

the toolbox is in beautiful shape, i think its becasue the truck rotted mostly from sitting on a gravel driveway, so the toolbox was out of the weather. the old door rotted off it, and a new one was bought back in the early 80's, and was never put on, he still has it, in the box.

IF the above is true you would have a bidding war on ebay for it . . .

Re: How Rare?

Sorry if I changed to appearance of this thread by getting excited over the possibility of getting a few parts I`d love to find.He never offered them and never used language indicating any desire to sell.My bad, never looked at the color.
