Finally...Fresh Paint

Well after giving up on the first bodyman who had our truck for 370 days with no progress...I found a young fellow just back from Wyotech looking for work and just 6 miles from me!! Very pleased with the way it turned out, just have to finish the trim and lights, then wait for spring. btw..we trailered it home at 10-15 mph so no salt/sand would get on her. I would like to say thanks few board members for their help/advice and parts...Teeitup (cab, box, fender, miscparts); Jims70GMC (carb); Yukon Jack (carpet); Byrd (tach dash lense) and Zoomy for giving some pointers and advice and shipping on some parts. This project started in 2004 and has progressed like most everyones...slower and more costly than had been planned!!! But hey we are really close now. It was a father/son project that has given me the quality and quantity of extra time I was looking for with my youngest son before he graduates from high school this spring. We still talk/joke about the trip to Randy's in Meridian, he slept through most of Iowa both ways; and when we stopped for a short catnap on the way home, me sleeping on the Crispy Creme donuts....that is what this project was about for me...memories with my son. Thanks for listening Gord

Re: Finally...Fresh Paint

Wow! That looks really good. The stripes kinda have the factory 69-72 lower molding look as well as looking like SS Nova or Firebird H.O. stripes. My '67 Firebird 400 H.O. had that type of stripe on it, and I'm putting them back if I ever get it painted. Great story also. Ya'll will never forget working on that old truck!

They did, but he said he bought fenders/cab/bed from Teeitup, so it must be either be a '67 with newer fenders or a newer truck with a '67 cab.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Finally...Fresh Paint

Thanks for the compliments, and Ron you hit it on the head...good times here during the build. Ya, she is a combination of parts we had here and good sheetmetal we got from Randy. The cab is a 67, box and front fenders newer, (I like the marker lights), the axles are from a 72I had around here. We don't plan on selling so it is just a truck we wanted to put together and enjoy the build and driving in the good weather.

Re: Finally...Fresh Paint

Andrew..we are a little farther from Randy!! About a 23 hour round trip. The color is Hugger Orange with the black stripes under it and about 4-5 coats of clear on top of that. I liked the stripe idea rather than the chrome mouldings (less expense, nothing to come loose and rattle) and all that orange was going to need something to break it up

Looks great! Cool deal about working with your son on it. What is the plan for wheels and tires out of curiosity?
