I just pick up a diff. for a 100 buck a dont what im looking at. It is a 12 bolt with a open diff. it has two small gears and two bigger gears in the open parts. The guy I bought it from says it is a posi but I called a friend a he says its a limited slip. I have looked in all the other threads but dont see any pics to show me. Thanks for the Help!

Usually limited slip and posi are used somewhat interchangeably. A posi would have a visible set of springs between the two bigger gears. See picture for an example.

If you turn one gear, does the gear on the other side turn the opposite direction? If so it's an open (non posi) unit.

Here's another picture. Is there anything between the two bigger gears or just a shaft that runs between the two smaller gears?
