No oil press sender? Another thread!

Hey guys, I read the low oil pressure thread and it made me realize, I don't haven't had accurate oil pressure in awhile. As many of you already know, I swapped out 4.3 from a 92 to an 88. The 88 had that funky looking oil pressure sender near the filter, while the 92 did not. Anyway.

I have a pegged oil pressure gauge that never moves. The ecm is from the 92, but the gauges are not (incompatable clusters). I figured the sender would give me a oil pressure light if something went wrong, but after reading the thread I think maybe not. Do I need to install that christmas tree looking thing into the 92 engine for oil pressure readings?

Here is a pic of the block right above the oil filter. Is it even possible to install one? Heck, do I need it?
