Frame measurement needed
I am in the process of putting my 62 cab on a 81 3/4 ton chassis. I picked up a long bed chassis and I cut and shortedned it for my short bed 62. The measurement I need is from the rear spring shackle mount on the frame to the rear spring front mount. I need the measurement to be center of bolt head to center of bolt head. I dont need the spring length just the frame mount to frame mount holes were the springs mount in the front and were the shackle bolts on in the rear. My original front mounts for the rear springs were waisted along with the frame were I cut 15" out of it. I built my own front crossmember for the rear springs, just need to know were to put it. Thanks Dennis

Re: Frame measurement needed
I'm guessing....
I think stock springs for that era were 56".... therefore, eye to eye would be about 56". On my '72 stock springs are 52" and I believe eye to eye is just under 52". O'Course, I'm just guessing. I don't have that era truck.

Re: Frame measurement needed
56" stock springs on my 80 3/4 ton. the bolt to bolt on mine is 55". I believe figure the location of the rear mount so the shackle can't can't swing too far and hit the mount when the spring flattens out. This distance can change depending on the amount of arch in your springs.

Re: Frame measurement needed
Thanks for the replys guys. I do have 56 inch springs. I figured the hole to hole distance was close to the spring length but just wanted to make sure.
The truck will never haul anything but me and the family and a cooler up to the sand dunes here in Michigan. Thanks again. Dennis |
