Old Blue's Motor Swap

Even though it was pouring down rain, I was workin' on it! I have to get the motor to Mix's shop by Friday morning to get it back & installed before the Christmas

Re: Old Blue's Motor Swap

Got the motor out last nite, it's going in this morning to be rebuilt with an aftermarket cam, reworked heads, 9:1 pistons, brass freeze plugs, hi-vol oil pump and a roller timing chain. Should have it back by Wednesday afternoon with any luck. I hope to have it running by next Sunday morning.

Re: Old Blue's Motor Swap

Yessir I did....got the tranny and flexplate unbolted and removed the motor. Took it in this morning for the rebuild.

Assuming the block has never been bored, the new 355 will have 9:1 hypereutectic pistons, Sealed Power chrome moly rings, Clevite bearings, forged crankshaft, new cam kit with lifters [262 grind], hi-vol oil pump, brass freeze plugs & a roller timing chain set. Best news came when I dropped the motor off. Mix looked at it and said he thought my heads were the 'sleeper' double humps. He said that GM made some heads that never got marked. He said he'd do some more research and find out. Once we know, if they are not they will get ported a bit for better breathin'.

Who says I can't have a little fun haulin' tools and lumber???

I am about to start cleaning up the engine bay. Going to freshen it up with a few coats of flat black and remove what little oil/grease the bad rings left behind. Sure wish it was 70 like last week though....it's 50* right now and misting...not the best combo for workin' outside. I do have some cover though. Funny this happened thevery week before I got to disassemble a 24x24 carport that will become a large 2-bay garage soon. I always get to do this type stuff in the winter for some unknown reason...

Re: Old Blue's Motor Swap

Most every engine i've seen that has been rebuilt will have the over bore stamped onto the piston so you can read it with the heads off. It will say something like .030 or .040 right on top. Just so you know for next time so you don't have to wait to find out from the shop.

Re: Old Blue's Motor Swap

True and I could have removed the heads but I have been up against the wall on this unscheduled swap... Normally I would have taken it apart and found the cause of the problem before taking it in.

Re: Old Blue's Motor Swap

The cleaning and prepping went well and I got some painting done this weekend. I am just about ready for the new motor to arrive!
