Cool Dumb chassis question from a noob

Hey all.
I hang mostly in the 60-66 group, but also in the 47-59 too. My bare steel suburban that lays on the running boards is nominated in dec's TOTM.
Well, it was mine, I built it. But have since sold it to a guy in AR.

Anyway. I have, what is most likely, a dumb question.

I went to look at a real clean 72 GMC lwb truck, minus it's bed. It's a leaf-spring rear as most know.

If I buy it, I want it slammed. I mean, laying out.

So...Is it feasible to just remove the leafs and r.e. and move the r.e forward, and add a big notch, and relocate with a tri-angulated 4-link?
What I'm asking is...Is there any reason I can't just shorten my wheelbase to swb length using the lwb frame?

It would need a decent sized notch, and I can make my own crossmembers to locate the tri-4

Then I can find a shortbed or shorten a longbed for it.

I'm sory if this has been covered before. Honestly, I didn't search it out. I'm at work on my bosses computer, so it's SLOOOWWWWWWW.

Thanks, and I appreciate it
Tim

Re: Dumb chassis question from a noob

Check the suspension forum. Lots of info on shortening lwb frames.

Yes, everything you're mentioning has been done many times before. I would suggest looking in the FAQ's for the thread on frame shortening. Here's a good article for doing it on an assembled truck.

However I like the way it's done in the FAQ better though, but either will work.

There's several write ups in the FAQ section. If you click on my crewcab thread, you can see where I built a short wheel base Crew Cab frame using the same procedures. OBTW awesome suburban, I'm sure you did well when you sold it.

I saw that, and appreciate it. But it wasn't allowed since I don't own it anymore.
I sold it in aug.

The mod. pm'd me and asked. I told him I sold it.

Oh well...
Thanks again though.

PS...Btw, I don't have any pics of your 57 or I would've nominated it. It was fun watching people look it over. What a find it is.

I was wondering why it was yanked. Guess that explains it. Don't worry about me, I'm sure I'll be nominated when TOTM - Ambulances comes around!
