cam and lifters 350
O.k. Its time for cam and lifter set 376,000 miles original cam and lifters. I bought it in 1979 69,000 miles then . My question is I want it be be as stock as it always has been . What would be a good cam and lifter set and where to get it. thanks

I'd think you could get a stock grind cam & lifters from your local parts house...

with that amt of miles you'd need new springs and should also do a valve job then to prevent blowby a minimum of a hone and new rings really woudnt be a bad idea to turn the crank and new bearings etc etc etc you'll never het your moneys worth out of gettiung a new cam its pretty much an all or nothing deal with a ultrahighmileage motor

I agree with cdowns, just get the parts for a stock rebuild. A new cam and lifters only will snowball into an overhaul anyway, and this way you won't get stranded.

Heads have already been done about 20,000 miles ago. I have had a bad cam lobe for awhile just wanted to take care of that not a complete overhaul it uses very little oil and we checked piston walls during head job they looked great.These engines last forever driven correctly and taken care of . I have alot of confidence she will go 500,000 with cam and lifters.

The cam you're looking for is GM P/N 3896929; CompCams sells this cam under P/N 12-105-3. It may be available from others as well.

Yeah I will definitely add new timing chain and gear.Can cam be removed without grill out or not.

u can get it out by pulling your radiator, idk about gmc grills but 71 chevy grills are really easy to get out

A real nice stock cam is the 300 HP 327 repacement cam. It is a great cam for what you are looking for and you can get a whole cam, lifter and timing set from nortern auto parts for about $60. I used that setup and they sorked perfect for a stock SBC cam setup.

For passenger cars, same cam - GM 3896929. 65-67 used a slightly different cam, GM 3732798 with more intake lift (.398 vs. .390) but less exhaust lift (.398 vs. .410). Typically a non-dual-pattern cam gives a bit more torque at the expense of top-end HP. Do you have the specs on the cam you're getting from Northern?

dont ask me i just flattened the he!! out a cam that i got with a whole top end kit i ordered from trick flow. already bought another one though, now i guess i get to do it twice. but i did shave and paint my firewall while i had it disassembled.
