3 point seatbelt mounting

Has anyone put 3 point seatbelts in there 67-72 chevy? I would like to put shoulder harness seatbelts in my 68 and was wondering if there is a manufacturer that makes a direct bolt in using the original mounting points? Would prefer not to make new holes, I think it would be just plain easier with direct bolt ins.

Re: 3 point seatbelt mounting

I havn't done mine yet but I think I've fugured out what I'm gonna do...I'm going to take a peice of 1" square tubing cut it the width of the cab minus a couple of inches, miter the ends, all that pretty stuff. Remove the top bolts of the gastank, drill holes in the square stock so that bolts will go through it and into where the top bolts for the tank are. Then get my seats right, figure out where the shoulder straps need to be mounted, mark the square tubing, REMOVE it, weld bolts onto the tubing to use as the anchor point, paint it all up to match the interior and bolt it back in. As for the lap belts I'm just gonna use the factory bolt holes. Ya think it'll work?

Re: 3 point seatbelt mounting

Confused to why you would have to do all that.. from what Ive read they sell direct bolt in units for a little over 200$. There should already be a threaded hole in the pillar.. you may just have a plastic cap over it now. Others have also pulled seatsbelts out of newer trucks but you have to bang the retractor mount with bfh to get it to fit when your tank has not been relocated.

Re: 3 point seatbelt mounting

My reasoning behind doing it this way is that I want the shoulder straps to come through my seat so they need to be mounted directly behind the slots. I'm using racing seats

In addition I'm figuring $10 for the square tubing, $3 worth of bolts and a can of paint...$15 compared to a $200 kit

Re: 3 point seatbelt mounting

Brock- not trying to step on your feet at all.. just make sure you check local laws and NHRA rules (if you plan on racing) on how you go about mounting your belts. I know there is some regulation on where the mounting point needs to be, obviously higher than the shoulder. Im wanting a safer setup myself and would be interested in seeing your progress on this subject.

Here's the article that I read and the direction that I used to purchase my 3 point belts. http://www.customclassictrucks.com/t...tem/index.html and the link to the belt supplier http://buckle-up.net/index.html

Re: 3 point seatbelt mounting

i used a set from a '95 suburban & just bolted them into the stock holes at the top & at the bottom. they work but the angle at the base is not right & needs to be adjusted. i think that "putter" did a right up on how to install them with the adjustment... not sure though.

just my 0.02

Re: 3 point seatbelt mounting

Not sure if these will work right. But I just bought a set off e-bay for 40 bucks. Search for 2 point seatbelt and this should come up.

Ad says he bought out a bunch of overstock... Check it out, it's a whole bunch cheaper than buying from parts outfit...

Thanks for the advice on the laws/rules, I'm not planning on racing it just it being a driver...a VERY SAFE driver. I haven't started anything yet, thats on the to-do list but things have to be done before I can get to that...Carpet, seats, engine/tranny, From the ads I've seen they say the belts aren't DOT approved, but I would find it hard for a judge to fine you for going way above the typical safety standards.

These are the belts I'm looking at $69 each so $140 + 20 for hardware still only $160

Picked up mine from LMC truck I think.

Unflattering picture below.

Won't be needing them now that I located some late model Sierra seats w/the integrated seatbelts.

Re: 3 point seatbelt mounting

I used a 90 model set out of a chevy truck. Bolted them right up with orignal holes in floor.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: 3 point seatbelt mounting

These are the belts we use & sell. They look to be same as ECE...just a little better price and we do provide a set of directions just for installing in 67-72s.
These are in with a set of 60/40s, but work just as well with stock seats.

Better check your local laws. In most places those are illegal for street use and you will be ticketed for using them as such.

You might want to think twice about those integrated belts. I have posted very vocally about this issue many times. Our trucks were simply NOT designed to handle the loads imposed by an integral belt seat. Bench seat floors are not even strong enough to safely support a set of factory buckets. Factory bucket trucks had extra bracing. And no factory bucket trucks are likely not strong enough for an integrel belt seat either. I do seat and belt mounting design for an RV manufacturer and have seen what a seat belt pull test can do to a vehicle floor! You do not want to be safely belted to your seat as it crashes into the dash and steering wheel shortly before you and the seat are ejected from your truck.

Re: 3 point seatbelt mounting

The integrated best are fine as long as you brace the under side of the cab sufficiently.
