Re: sealing the rain channel

As long as you clean out all of the grime and make sure you don't have any rust left, it's really your call.

I caulked mine with a single, thick bead and then used my finger to smooth it and curve it for the water to drain evenly out of it. I just made sure that all of the seams were covered then primed and painted it...

Re: sealing the rain channel

There is also a two part epoxy sealer that works really well. Check at your professional body shop for that product. You will also need a special application gun to apply this material. It hardens unlike the GM drip rail caulk.

I have to do that too. Clean it really, really good, because any rust left at all will grow fast - figure about every night you get standing water there, from the dew. There's a special caulk to put there, like stllookin says, you can get it at an auto paint shop.

I used the 3M product, I believe it was #5803 or 5308, not sure which. But it is a self leveling sealer and does a great job. You will need the special applicator gun that some paint suppliers will let you borrow if you buy their product. If you use auto body caulk it won't stay. Here's how mine turned out...
