I am thinkin' dark blue for the body and black for most everything else with very little chrome.

Re: Black motors, black trucks....

I painted my block and cast iron Vortec heads black. I would like to try a body color block next time, but the black looks clean and a little shiny stuff brings it to life.

I can imagine that would cause a problem.

I've always planned on color matching the block with the body paint.

Re: Black motors, black trucks....

Hi Kelly. I like chrome as much as anyone else but for my truck I have a black block, aluminum intake and silver painted stock valve covers and pulleys for a little bit different look. Will have ramhorns cleaned up and painted gray too.

I painted this one black, and it's in a black 69 Chevelle. Might be a little difficult to see the paint on the motor though.

Re: Black motors, black trucks....

If I paint my engine black, the oil that will come forth will be harder to see, but it will still come from the same place.....blowby.

Should I do it??

Wink Re: Black motors, black trucks....

I dunno.... maybe cause I'm old fashion (school) but for me small block chevy engines are ONLY ORANGE.... Black does show off the chrome very nice.... but as was already mentioned "doesn't show where leaks maybe coming from (or not)". Guess it"s a matter of "tastes" or like me "a matter of TRADITION"

Re: Black motors, black trucks....

Tradition, while I do understand your position and many others like yours, I have never followed it to the letter. I've had several Chevy Orange motors and they were cool, but it's time for something else. Being different is nothing new for me, this is my everyday driver and a work truck as well.

About the leaks, this particular builder builds motors that don't leak [he's a rarity, I know]. I also never try and guage my oil level by the amount of oil on the motor and frame, I leave that up to the dipstick. With the eye for detail that I have, I'll be able to tell oil from the paint if I stumble on it, but I don't expect to anytime soon.

Re: Black motors, black trucks....

I did my black 84 truck with a 383 stroker motor and it was a painted black block and silver oil pan. It worked out well with the coated intake and chromed valve covers. The white truck in the background has a L98 TPI motor that is black on the block with the oil pan and timing chain cover powder coated silver waiting to go into it.

Here's the way mine used to look before I painted the truck blue. The engine is color matched to the body color now.

Oh, and Yullose, on that wheel standing Chevelle!! Got any more pics of it?

Did you go from shorty headers to long tubes? I am doing the exact opposite swap...all Hedman like yours. If so why did you go with the long tubes?
