Re: Update on my 81 Step-side
Classic flat black and red, however..... what's the deal with the front air dam???? To each their own, but it's not quite my cup of tea.
Truck has made a major turn around otherwise, it looks great!

It's unusual, I dig it. Kinda looks like it belongs in a Mad Max movie.

Bumper flip...not. Red trim rings...not. I do like the rest though! The main thing is...if you like it then who cares.

Re: Update on my 81 Step-side
Thanks for all the replys guys.
I know it is not everybodys cup of tea. I really do appriciate all the constructive criticism...From people on this board, it means a lot. As the truck sits now, I only have about $500.00 invested out of pocket, If you add the cost of all the tools and consumables I bought along the way, maybe $700.00....NO, I did not put the decimal in the wrong place !!!!!!!!! The bumper seems to be raising the most eyebrows... I had never seen it done on one of these trucks, so I went with it. As far as all the dents in the fenders, I'm not a bodyman, and it would cost money to have that done....But I just found out that a guy I work with does it.... Future plans: replacing the tail lights with something different, maybe some surface mount lights on the face side of the bumper. Also thinking about some ghost flames of some kind.?.?.?.? Finish setting the rearend level with the front. Replace the amber turn signals in the front bumper. Might change the red to a hugger or HEMI orange. Put some tunes in. Insulate the cab cause these trucks have too much of a hollow sound. Once again, thanks for all the feedback. Last edited by FlatBrokeRacing; 12-18-2007 at 07:12 AM. |

Re: Update on my 81 Step-side
That bumper looks pretty stout. I also like the amber lights on the core support.

Re: Update on my 81 Step-side
I just want your rust free parts!! Flat black the wheels and the red trim rings will have that old school hot rod look. Inverted bumper is interesting, but doesnt really flow with the truck. it looks like an after thought. Maybe an inch too much rake, but otherwise looks good. Dents dont bother me. I think there is around $1000 in my truck, including the 454, so low buck appeals to me..

Re: Update on my 81 Step-side
the bumper is photochopped, but you make one by cutting the top part of one and the bottom of another and welding the pieces together - you end up with a massive front bumper like this, and possibly a thin rear bumper.

Re: Update on my 81 Step-side
Thumpin 455,
The inverted bumper was sort of an afterthought. But it did what I wanted it to do and that was simply to give the face of truck a different look. I really do appriciate all the feedback from everyone. |

Re: Update on my 81 Step-side
The truck look's alot better now then when you first got it.
I think that front bumper will prove to be a real shin killer while working in the engine compartment. But id'e say it's a killer ride for 500 bux!!!! |

Re: Update on my 81 Step-side
87 STEPPER,
Thanks for takin a look. I'm not a big guy, so when I need to work in the engine bay, I generally just climb over in there with it. Hey, it does save the shins... Thanks again. |

Re: Update on my 81 Step-side
Haha, that's just what the previous owner told me to do when I was getting my truck - jut climb in, you can do engine work under pouring rain and still be dry, lol But I did make things easier for me, that front trailer hitch I got makes for one very convenient step when trying to reach the back of the engine.
