Re: Radio bulbs burnt out
I work at a Dealership and see this often. We have to send them out for exchange. I have taken them apart before, and if you are carful and can find a close enough bulb, you should be able to solder in new ones.
I have one out on my radio right now. I banged just above it on the dash a couple times one night, and now it is staying lit.

Re: Radio bulbs burnt out
So they are bulbs and not LED's. What a stupid way to light the radio. What ever happened to the good old push in bulbs??
Were do you get your bulbs? Thanks for your reply BP68

Re: Radio bulbs burnt out
The bulb on my recirculate button burnt out last year. Sounds like I'll just leave it alone

Re:Safety issue? Radio bulbs burnt out
now that you mention it I think my recic. button is not lit also. Why do they have to make it so hard to change out the bulbs??? Is it not a saftey concern...trying to fumble with bottons you can not see?!
Another job well done Mr. Young-Engineer!

Re: Radio bulbs burnt out
I take it they are 12 volt LEDS. I think I'll try that...I don't have anything to lose.

Re: Radio bulbs burnt out
I work for a extended warranty company ad this is a VERY common problem, most of my lights in my heater control in my Impala are burnt out as well. pretty much our only fix is to replace the control face itself.

Re: Radio bulbs burnt out
I reparied a pioneer face, just soldered in 8 or 9 new leds. It is not hard and I am not that good with a soldering iron, in fact it was a cheapo 99 cent iron at that.

Re:more problems besides burnt out bulbs on other truck
thanks guy's .....Now can you help me with my 1994 GMC. The other day I shut the truck off and the radio stayed on for a quite awhile before shutting off! The 2000 has a feature that the radio stays on untill you open the door, But the 1994 does not have this feature, it just started to do it it's self! I would think it is a sticky relay, but where would I find it?
Peter.

Re: Radio bulbs burnt out
Back to the radio lights being out, if it's the stock radio/cd player then most of the lights are little bulbs not leds. They look almost the same but these bulbs are closer looking to mini mag light bulbs. Get em at radio shack for $1 each (12volt). The only LED I remember in my radio was for the power indicating light next to the on/off, vol control. Easy fix with solder iron if you DIY.

Re: Radio bulbs burnt out
Thanks so Much STAS 19!!! I did not look real colse to see if they were bulbs , or LEDs. I have been putting the repair off , but I'll want to get them replaced. Next time I'm in the big city , I will stop and pick up a hand full!
Thanks Again, Peter.

Re: Radio bulbs burnt out
I was going to rob some bulbs out of a old radio we had at the dealer, but haven't had to so far. If any bulbs go out after my warranty is up, I will be doing the DIY repair. BTW my dad has a 01 F150 and the LCD odometer kept going on and off. A quick search on a F150 forum showed me where to find the broken solder on one of the pins and we fixed it right up.

Re: Radio bulbs burnt out
Yes, using Forums like this sure helps fix a lot of stuff! Even just following the threads, you learn a lot. I use this one and a model t forum all the time.
Peter.
