What did YOU do this weekend?
Well, for one I forgot that I had my digi cam in the console of my "other" truck ('03 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 QC). Someday I will remember that I actually own a digital camera and start taking pictures when I go places.
DAMN YOU SEE TEN! Anyway, I went to see "I Am Legend" on Friday night (amazingly good flick, BTW). On Saturday I decided that it was time to go ahead with the suspension rebuild on the '71. So I rebuilt the front suspension (upper/lower ball joints, inner/outer tie rods and adjusting sleeves, etc etc etc), installed the anti sway bar from the other truck (speaking of which, I have a question to ask, later), installed new (stock) coil springs, a new panhard rod (the old one was a welded up piece of 3/8" rebar :O), new shocks, new brake hard lines and rubber lines (springs, shocks, and lines at all four corners). That was Saturday from about 0900-1800 (the auto hobby shop out at Luke Air Force Base kicked me out then, lol). Then I got cleaned up and went to a Christmas party. I ended up being DD for my buddy and ended up driving his new go-kart (2007 Honda S2000, awesome little car. But when I say "little", I mean it!) for the rest of the night. On Sunday I got up and drove out to Luke AFB again (35 miles one way to work on the truck) and bled the brakes, tightened the brake line fittings again, and RE-bled the brakes. Looked under the dash as the steering column "wiggles" a little bit when turning the truck and was promptly horrified at the previous owners wiring "expertise". Hot wires leading to mysterious switches, gauge leads going to under dash gauges that are no longer in place, etc. Really Really awesome stuff. ***Then I discovered that on Saturday I had broken one of the original style frame mounts for the Anti Sway bar. Which I can not find ANYWHERE online!*** Now I'm cleaning the apartment before my roommate comes home (she wouldn't understand or appreciate all of the Brothers and LMC boxes sitting in the living room right now. Not one bit!). Had to wash the work coveralls twice, and THEN I had to clean the inside of the washing machine to remove the fine coating of various chemicals and grime that one gets embedded in their clothing after working on an old truck. So, how did you spend YOUR weekend? *** Does anybody know where I could find the bracket that I'm talking about? Last edited by JVictor75; 12-18-2007 at 08:22 PM. |

Re: What did YOU do this weekend?
Drove my Blazer from its hiding place at my folk's house up to my new (to me) house, drove it up on a stump for a picture, then backed her into the garage (probably the first time in a garage in decades). Very soon she will be getting the royal (rebuild) treatment.

Re: What did YOU do this weekend?
Closer than you think! He actually stopped by my house and picked up the old step side bed. That reminds me. I appologize for not stopping by and dropping off the wheels. I have been so caught up in my project that i haven't made the time. The week of christmas i will be back in town from work. I will try and swing by then. Talk to you later.

Re: What did YOU do this weekend?
Saturday I stripped the big block motor mounts down to bare metal. It was too cold to repaint them and have the paint stick.

Re: What did YOU do this weekend?
The weekend BEFORE this last weekend I took the family to the local tree farm to pick out/cut a Christmas tree. I proved once again that my truck still starts at -13F. That ain't wind chill factor. By the time I got outside Saturday morning it was "up" to -13 Fahrenheit. The outdoor part of my digital indoor/outdoor thermometer cut out at -18 so I don't know how cold it got that night.
This past weekend I chained up the front tires so I could pull a boat around to the back yard like I should have done a month ago before the snow fell. I left the chains on because the next time I need it I'll be pulling the fish house across the lake. Good thing our buddy Al got his award in sunny Bali last week cause man it has been cold lately. The photos are from the Christmas tree weekend. I had the camera in my pocket so I took a few shots.

I lowered my '71 about 4 inches. Only took about 30 minutes and 1500 lbs of firewood.

Re: What did YOU do this weekend?
Finished my meat smoker Saturday, and then drove the wife to a nutcracker ballet/play with all the rest of the girls and grand-girls in the family. Just like the postman, did it in the snow, sleet and rain. Earned enough brownie points to go tonight (Monday night) and pick up my 2003 Sierra seats for my C10's interior overhaul!! (Picture of similar seats shown below)

Re: What did YOU do this weekend?
Got stranded at my girlfriends house 20 miles away from any tools when my starter went out at 2am. Par for the course... nothing has gone wrong in a good two months... I was due I guess. Slept over at her house, causing me to NOT get to drink the 30 pack I had in the truck with some buds. Woke up and called AAA and they hauled it home so I could start working on her. Had work today so didn't get a chance to tear it down.
