Moving to California soon...

Hey guys-registration question for you. It's not exactly a "simple" question, so I'm not expecting much advice other than "call the DMV" but here goes:

Lived in California up until 2004 when we moved to Texas. Bought my 69 in 1994 there (in CA) and now we're going to be moving back probably around June.

Anyone have the slightest clue if I have to register it as if it were *never* registered? Also, did I forfeit the 30 year old vehicle smog waive by moving out of state with it?

Any ideas off the tops of our heads here?

Re: Moving to California soon...

My guess is the truck is still in the system and if you show them current registration from Texas, you should be OK and not have any problems. I think the truck is smog exempt regardless.

BTW.....I've always had the best luck going to "small town" type DMV's if I had any problems.....they just seem more willing to help and do the occasional favor for their customers.

Where you moving to?......and why would you come back to this screwed up state?!?!?

We're going to probably move to modesto/turlock. I'll keep the tip about the "small town" DMV too...

As for why, it's quite simple-we have no family here

You will still be smog exempt, and they did away with the huge Cali first reg tax, so no hassles there.
My 3/4T is $200, yours should be a bit less.
I think you may be able to do it online at www.ca.dmv.gov

Or if you have AAA just go there and do the registration and title change (from TX to CA)
