Re: Loud pop sound
does it run different? drive different? mine will backfire, which is unburned fuel that explodes later in the exhaust instead of in the engine, definately a loud pop.

Re: Loud pop sound
It's probably just the bearings on the gas cap. They're real easy to diagnose and replace if necessary. First you have to......Uh, I gotta go, my dog just put my hampster in the microwave.

Re: Loud pop sound
There are so many possibilities to what could have made the pop sound. It could have been you running over something in the road, or a suspension noise or a million other possibilities. There is simply not enough information for anyone to make a diagnosis over the internet.

Re: Loud pop sound
It would be hard to say from here.I didn`t hear or see it.My guess is as good as yours.Could you give more info?Did it come from under the hood?Out the back?Between the seat and your butt?

Re: Loud pop sound
If we have nothing constructive to say, why do we say anything? (And yes, I've seen the other threads.)
70' GMC, as Redneckgirl said above, we're gonna have a hard time diagnosing over the internet. If the truck seems to run differently since this happened, or if it makes the noise again, it may be time to get a mechanic, or a friend who is mechanically inclined, to check it out for you.

Re: Loud pop sound
Seriously,I`d check the timing. If it`s only done it once, don`t worry. Was it cold or warmed up?Was it near a mulberry bush? Now that was funny!
You guys have to realize that,at first, many times this member has asked for help and much help was given only to have it ignored and same questions asked over and over.At this point many find it hard to take him seriously because nothing offered has ever been taken in,apparently. He asks questions and doesn`t appear to read or aknowledge the answers. It would be hard for anyone not present to diagnose what a "pop" could have been caused by and with such little information the request appears about pointless. This poster has repeatedly double posted and been warned only to double post again. He seems to be more attention seeking than information seeking.I agree that this "toying" is not typical boardlike behavior, but this individual appears oblivious which is what I believe is egging the others on.I,personally, have addressed him directly and have seen no response. He`s just not that easy to take seriously at this point.

Re: Loud pop sound
70' GMC, the first thing I would do is check all of your spark plugs even if you don't suspect them.
My truck started popping last week for no apparent reason and found one of my plugs had gone bad. Also, a few years ago, I blew my muffler on my 69 when one of the plugs was fouled up. I knew I had a bad valve guide but drove it like that anyway. Then one cool morning, I choked it up to start it and raw fuel got into the exhaust and literally blew my muffler apart. One more thing, check all of your wires, spark plugs and anything that has to do with ignition. If all of that checks out then it may be mechanical (valves). Lest anyone think my defense was mounted in ignorance: That's why I mentioned that I've read his other threads. I don't believe that any of that is any reason to go mean-spirited. I believe the OP to be "one sandwhich short of a picnic," if you will forgive the expression. That is why my advice was to have someone else look at it. If it is as you say, and he is merely looking for attention, then posting things about mullberry Bushes meets his needs just as well as offering him a bunch of parts, and help installing them for free. On the other hand, a couple of polite, sincere, "get help with your truck" replies, then letting the thread go its way simply isn't as much fun as this has turned out to be for him.

Re: Loud pop sound
We do not have to reply to posts. When we do I feel we should give it our best, that is to say the knowledge and experience that we have obtained over the years and has served us well is what we should be sharing with other members. Falling short of this we are like allot of other boards, having a good time with in our little clique at someone elses expense. I've had fun pulling a members leg but I let him know that is what I was doing. Perhaps you should invite him to play so that he will feel welcome.
Did I hear someone say that would be no fun .... one thing I have noticed is that it is pretty much the same members that seem to take part in this immature game. Same members pretty much also drag trucks off the net with the express purpose of tearing them apart. Why would someone join a board to do this. On a personal note I had this happen to me when I first joined because I asked what a safe cracker was. About 20 to 30 of you guys jumped me and it was not because I don't take advice. I figured it out and then it was dropped but it did not make me feel welcome let me tell you. I've seen this done to other members as well so be honest, this is just some thing that some members enjoy doing. "Remember we do not have to answer post's" no one is forcing us to!!! If there is a problem here let it be. I would say that some of you are getting very frustated and that indicates to me that it is time to move on. esll.

Re: Loud pop sound
Ok, all funning put aside for a while, on my part.
We need replies to some of the legitimate questions that have been asked, to actually help you. Have you tried to start the truck since you parked it? If you started the truck, does it seem to be running ok- or rather like it normally does? Have you ever heard a car/truck backfire before? Did it sound like that? Are there any fluids leaking any more than usual? You know, like streams of water or oil? Are your tires still inflated properly? This one sounds stupid, but it did happen to me. I had a sidewall on a tire go bad. It had a bubble/bulge on it about the size of your balled-up fist. I drove the vehicle for a few days like that, and it finally blew the bubble. It was a loud pop. The tire went down real slow. So check your tires for any distortions.

Re: Loud pop sound
were you going around a corner or maybe a bump/hump/pot hole?
Most engine noises would be more of a thump or a bang, and most of them would result in an commont of running like crap, or wouldn't restart. I am thinking more along the lines of a ball joint making a pop noise. |

Re: Loud pop sound
24 hours later, we have 7 posts indicating more info is needed for any diagnosis.
We know: 1)The noise was loud. 2)The noise was from under the hood. We don't even know if the truck was moving, or the engine was on at the time. The only possible conclusion is somebody isn't trying very hard.

Re: Loud pop sound
and noone forces you or anyone to read them either. I have posted in many of the said threads, and talked with the user in PM and dealt with the numerous complaints brought on by this user.. sometimes when all else fails people react. Unless 70' gmc shows respect for others in the community, I doubt anything will change.
