My 85 has the small drivers side tank (16 Gal). So I'm thinking of either adding a right side tank or puttin on a larger driverside tank or both anyone done it? What did you run into?

If yours is a shortbed and you want to use a factory tank, you can ONLY use a 16 gallon. I have put a 28gallon blazer tank in my project truck for better weight distribution.

If you add a tank you need an EFI selector valve and hoses to connect, in addition to a filler neck and a way to fill it as you won't have a fuel door...

I had thought about the lack of a filler door I plan on talking to my body shop guy about stich welding one in from a wrecking yard fender. I noticed the bed has the hump in it.

My 85 has factory dual tanks that are 16 gallon, honestly I keep a couple gallons in the passenger side tank just in case I go a little farther than I should have and thats it I hardly ever use it, its kinda a pain to fill one tank and turn the truck around and fill another, I'd rather have one bigger tank, besides the problem with a filler neck and another fuel door for ya. This is coming from someone who mostly drives between 15 to 40 mile trips to a couple differenent towns, so I'm never to far from a gas station.

I would see about putting a big Suburban or Blazer tank under the rear of the bed if you can live with having your spare tire in the bed. You could just put the filler cap in the bed floor.

We've been researching adding a tank to ours... maybe even using an S10 Blazer tank in the rear since the spare is in the bed now anyhow. The fuel tank selector valve kit from JCwhitney is part#81TS2686W for carbed motors.

Bob: You opened a can of worms with this one LOLL. You can put a larger tank in but you'll need new straps too. If you want to put in a second tank in the factory position you in for a BUNCH of work. New hangers, fuel lines, tank switching valve, wireing & punching out a hole for a fuel door. To much work. Go for a rear mounted tank. I have an 84 with dual tanks that I am restoring now. After I get her togther I'm going to see if I can't figure a way to plumb in a fuel fill cross over so I can fill both tanks at the same time from either side. Wouldn't that be cool. jim

Yes Jim that would be awesome What would be cool for me is if I could figure out how to tie the two tanks together like GM did in the C-5 series Corvette. It has two tanks but one fill point, one gauge no valves or switches.

The C5 has a crossover tube and it also has 2 pumps. One in the drivers tank and one in the passenger tank. The passenger side tank is constantly pumping fuel into the drivers tank.

i only have a 16 gallon on one side and its not enough gas for 454. i'd like to add another 16 gallon on the other side. AND put in the big blazer/suburban 35 gallon in the rear. id use the big rear as daily and the two 16's for roadtrips in combination iwth the big rear. its awfully ambitious i know. but 16 gallons is not enough gas

My '73 has the stock 20 gallon on one side and an aftermarket tank on the other side...still not sure how much it holds. It is setup with dual electric fuel pumps, I like that idea in case one goes bad...you can still drive home.

I still want to add a big rear tank and use that for daily driving and I'm going to add another fuel pump and a quick connector for a fuel hose, so I can use my truck like a tanker to fill up everything I have!

(mostly my boat, which gets 2mpg)

I`ve been thinking about ditching my dual tanks, and swapping in a rear mount Sububan one. It`d be nice to only have 1 tank to fill, and since most of my fuel system is junk anyhow....convert to TBI.
