Carb issues

Looking for opinions or suggestions.

My truck has a 400sb with a Holley 600cfm carb on top. It is extremely hard to start in this cold weather up here in Illinois. Previous owner built truck in Georgia and carb was used/rebuilt when he installed it.

I think a float is sticking and the choke is definately sticking making the cable useless.....you have to go under the hood to adjust it. Easy enough to do but it just should not have to be the case.

When it gets going and warms up it runs fine. Re-starts fine. Then when it gets hot it will run-on, or deisel, when you shut it off.

Will a simple rebuild solve most of these problems? Is it more of a timing issue? It has been suggested that I just replace it with an Edelbrock. Funds are tight right now and if I can get by without doing that it would be ideal.

Well, what do you think?

Re: Carb issues

Iam no expert mechanic, but it does sound like the timing is off. I would start there, then think about having the carb rebuilt.

Re: Carb issues

Timing is kinda what I thought too. I'll get that done and see what we have after that.
