Console pics for HeavyD

Here is your console it is finished, completly stripped sealed and repainted. All of the outer nuts and bolts are new stainless, the screws were polished, hinge polished, NOS door bumpers, new 18 gage polished stainless ashtray bezels, emblem brushed, new ashtray (note the one in the pic is one that I had polished and put in there for the pic before your new one came in) It turned out very nice. Forgive me for the pics, I bought my wife an new cannon camera and it has more bells and whistles than I have ever seen so I am not to sharp with it yet.

Re: Console pics for HeavyD

I don't mean to hijack the thread but, Are the nuts and bolts connecting the upper to lower section supposed to be stainless to be factory correct? I am asking because I don't know, not because I am questioning you.

Thanks

Re: Console pics for HeavyD

Jay no they are not but I leave it up to the person that I am restoring the console for to chose what they want. The nuts, bolts and washers that I use are the same size as the factory ones, the only differance is the factory ones are color matched.
I can do them either way, most prefer the stainless. Thanks Jerry for the comp.

Re: Console pics for HeavyD

Thanks everyone for the comps., These things are getting hard to find and I learn more every time that I restore one. Just a little note to you all that want to do your own. The paint on the white (parchment) and light blue (baby blue) ones are very hard to strip. I do not know why but these two colors are a big pain in the a-- to get down to the bare fiberglass. If you are going to restore your own and want a top notch job, completly stripping them is the only way to go.

Wow I have to say major props to you. That is attention to detail you rarely see any more. If you don't mind me asking how long do you think you have into a console restoration like that one. Again very very nice.

Re: Console pics for HeavyD

I would say around 8-10 hours. Stripping them is the most time consuming part. If you have one that does not need any major repairs that is about the time frame. The painting part is the easy part. Polishing all of the hardware is the second most consuming part.

I know nothing about these counsels so Im sorry if this comes across as a dumb question. Are all the chrome pieces on them stock? Or do you have em made? If they are stock do you re chrome them? How bout the emblems...are those stock?

Whenever I see you post pics of one, I want to buy one. But all my trucks are bench seats. Wonder if I can rig one up next to my desk to lean on??

Re: Console pics for HeavyD

Stope4 Tail strip #2811 stripper, you can buy it at your local autoparts store. It runs around 5 bucks a can and it will take about 4-5 cans to strip one. If you get a pair of gloves and a scotch brite pad it will help.
CG the trim pieces are chrome from the factory. The ashtray bezel has more of a brushed look than a chrome from the factory but all of the seat belt style console in the pics, I had those bezels made out of 18 gage polished stainless steel.
