71-72 cheyenne pics ?

I am building a 71 cheyenne (clone) s/b for my son. I am having trouble finding a tailgate and was wondering if I went with a repro smooth tailgate if I could use the tailgate band with it ?

thanks

you could, but they are very weak and will bow when you sit on it.

doesn't only the super cheyanne have a tailgate band. I have a cheyanne 10 4X4 and it didn't have a tailgate band.

The cheyenne does have a tailgate band & yes it covers where the letters are, so you can use a non-lettered tailgate

Yeah,it covers.I`ve seen chevy gates under GMC trim band and visa-versa.Although repro is not as strong as factory.I think their weakness is a bit exaggerated.I`ve had them and it would take an awefully heavy duty guy to buckle one,I`d think.Maybe the trim band would reenforce it.

The older repro $100 gates will bow if you were to stand/sit on em but the newer ones are considerably stronger. And yes the band will cover where the letters would be. I would suggest that you get the gate to "fit" before you paint it.

I guess it has been 11 years now, I only weighed 170 or so and it practicly folded under me.
The 69/70 CST had the band across the tailgate, and then the 71/72 cheyenne and super, same trim.

I have a 1971 cheyenne tailgate-----better than average condition---slight bow---I would sell it but afraid shipping would be prohibitive----$65.00? $75.00? for shipping?
