Right headlight bright, left one is not

I took my 67 for a drive to the post office and noticed my right headlight was bright, but my left was barely on. Anyone have a idea of what would cause this. I know my truck is hard to turn over even though the battery and the altenator, and belt are new. I was wondering if the voltage regulator might be the problem for the starting, but could that cause the headlight issue. I do know when I purchased the truck the previous owner did a good job at redneck rigging stuff, so a new wiring harness is in the future.

Thanks for any help

Could just be the headlight bulb.I bought a truck once with the same problem and found that the PO had replced the brighter headlight with a "Plus 25" bulb.

groundLet me xpand. the ground for a circut lets the juice so to speak FLOW. A poor ground will create all kinds of strange happenings. Not at the battery, check the ground straps to your radiator support. Sand to clean metal and see what happens. Check the wires at the back of headlamp also.

Re: Right headlight bright, left one is not

a bulb on the way out will do that, i have to punch the passenger headlamp on the burb daily, and it brightens up after that too, every time.
A poor ground will do that, follow the wire from the headlight plug, and unbolt the wire and clean the metal on the rad core, and on the wire.
It could be a messed up power wire, but VERY unlikely. If the other 2 things check out OK, then inspect the other wires to the plug.

Poor ground x 14, I bet that might be the trouble with your starting. Scrape away rust/paint from under the ground area, and use star washers underneath.

Try checking the connector at the headlight. I ended up replacing both of my connectors. AutoZone sells two connectors in a pack.

With your lights on, reach around behind the bulb and wiggle the connector.

Good luck!

Re: Right headlight bright, left one is not

first place to go is clean the ground and while you're at it also clean the plug and bulb contacts and a light coat of dielectric grease does help

x100 on the ground. lol. i had a ground go bad on my driver's side tailight when i first bought mine and it caused all sorts of issues. No brake lights, right turn signal caused all four to light as if emergencies were on, left turn signal activated my dashlights, my headlights flashed with my emergencies (relayed headlights so the small amount of current backflow tripped them). Anyways, it was messed up. Check grounds first.

Re: Right headlight bright, left one is not

Thanks for all the input guys, I replaced both headlight when I purchased the truck since the PO had a rag holding one in figured while down at the parts store buying adjusting screws might as well replace the headlights. I will check the radiator support ground I replaced the engine to frame and the cab to frame, but didn't know about the radiator support. Thanks again

Re: Right headlight bright, left one is not

Not sure about everything else, but I had the same problem w/ my headlight. Turns out it was a loose connection b/w the headlight and the wireing harness.
