New grille pictures

Thanks to Kevinr1970, I got my hands on a stock 79 suburban grille to use on my truck. While we were at it, we also painted the headlight buckets black, to match the grille. What does everyone think?

The first picture is the old one, the two attachments are new.

Re: New grille pictures

looks evil with the black grille man! I like it alot. Curious, you have a 2/2 drop. Looks pretty darn low for such a mild drop. I'm looking to go 2.5/4 via spindles front, shackles/hangers rear. What size tires are you running?

It's probably lower than that since I haven't updated the signature in a while. I also pulled a leaf spring out of the rear spring packs. That got me about an inch and a half to two inches lower. And in reality, its probably a 2.5 inch drop up front. I bought it with the back end slammed and the front where it is now, and I was told they were 2 inch drop springs, but I'm not positive. The tires are fairly small, at 225/60/15. I really need some fatter rubber on it, but I'll make due with what I got for now.

I'll go out and take some more today. I think I'm gonna give her a good wash, then take her out.

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

It had a little gloss to it when I got it, but I went over it again with flat black to get that look. I agree, flat is much better! I can't wait to get the rest of the truck lined up and put in primer or painted.

Re: New grille pictures

I agree, that looks a lot better. Looks similar to what I'm doing, but is that grill aftermarket? I have a spot for a bowtie in mine along with upper and lower moldings in the grill.

BTW, what kind of paint did you use on the bezels? Sims black exterior trim paint?

Re: New grille pictures

Sorry man I don't remember what I paint it was. My buddy had it in his garage, and we liked the way it looked, so I went for it. I do know that it was an exterior paint though.

And I do think the grille is aftermarket, but I'm not positive. I got it from Kevinr1970, so we'll see if he chimes in on that one.

Re: New grille pictures

I am not 100% sure, but have been told by others that it is aftermarket.
It was on my '79 Suburban when I got it?
Thats all I know about it?

X80, glad it worked for you and you like it. Not a big fan of the aftermarket grilles but have seen them look pretty good in the right applications.

Re: New grille pictures

my stock 79 grille had a flat bowtie shaped perch in the middle that you bolted the bowtie on.also trim strips.however that coulda been a trim level thing.although mines only a custom not a silverado.heres a pic of that stock grille.my guess would be that xtremes is an aftermarket.

Re: New grille pictures

OEM grilles have the bowtie (or provision for one), and aftermarket grilles do not.

Well this one does not. So I'm assuming it's aftermarket. Either way it works for me and looks sweet!

I may add an emblem at one point. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to attach to it.

Re: New grille pictures

The one without a bowtie is aftermarket. Keep an eye out on E-bay. I found an NOS Chevy grille from Classic parts on there It has the stamped bowtie, not the silverado bolt on one.

Re: New grille pictures

It's actually a tube grill in the first pic, but that's ok. What everyone calls a billet grill is actually not billet, it's extruded aluminium. Go figure...

Excuse me for the misuse of the word billet. I apologize for that, and it will not happen again.
