fiberglass dash

I've seen it done I was just wondering how to do it. My dash pad that came in my '87 is perfect. No cracks at all but I was wanting a fiberglass dash. Would I have to use a perfect dash or would it be better to get an old one?

Also it looks as if you just paint resin on the dash, use some filler, sand and paint is that right or no?

Thanks for your time!!!

Re: fiberglass dash

I am not a huge fiberglass expert (i"ve built two sub boxes that were perfect enough to cover with short pile carpet), but you're going to need more than just resin and filler to get a durable dash. Since the dash comes with a little padding to it, its going to require some fiberglass weave to get it strong enough to get it nice and sturdy.
Our style dashes come with some pretty nasty angles on the outer sections and gauge area that may take a lot of trial and error before they will look good with gloss paint on it.

I would highly recommend getting a junkyard dash and go to town on it. If it works out, install it. If it doesn't, you didn't ruin your ever so rare, un-cracked dash.

I agree! I heard that some chevy trucks actually came factory with a fiberglass dash. Anyone else know where to get one or how to make one?

Those look like the same ones they sell in LMC truck. From what i have heard, they do not line up that great.
