Lift Kit opinions
Looking at a 4" kit for the 72. Rough Country seems to be the cheapest. Who would recommend them or others? A few others I am aware of are: Tuff Country, Pro Comp, Skyjacker. I plan on an all spring lift also.
What else will I need?

Re: Lift Kit opinions
I think the best balance of price and quality is Tuff Country bought directly from www.suspensionconnection.com .

Re: Lift Kit opinions
After my 1 year ordeal with Rough Country I'd recommend them to none..
I'd go with Skyjacker. They may be expensive but you get what you pay for.. Typically in an all spring lift included is the shocks, springs (4),u bolts, bushings, brake line relocater. You may or may not need a raised steering arm. Some lift kits come with them but ususually not unless you get a 6" lift or higher.Usually you get the option of a adding a steering stabilizer, raised steering arm,and upgraded shocks too. Those cost extra of course..Keep in mind that with a lift comes bigger tires most of the time and the bigger tires may be too big for the gear ratio (If it's geared high,Which is typical if you have a 1/2 ton) and slow you down. Also keep in mind with bigger tires, more axle wear can occur. Those are just some things to think about. With a 34 or smaller you shouldn't have to worry much though.. Re: Lift Kit opinions
My plan is to go with 33's. Right now, 3.73 gears. I need to completely go through both front and rear diffs. Hope to get them done by Spring.
Now, one more question. Would anyone recommend buying oem rear springs and using blocks? I need rear springs regardless.

Re: Lift Kit opinions
I wouldn't buy stock then add blocks... Just get all new springs and be done with it.... or buy stock and do a shackle flip (ORD website)

Re: Lift Kit opinions
Gross is right... buy the taller springs don't hassle with the blocks. I just got done doing the same thing that you are doing now, 33's, 4" lift, 3.73 gears. it will look awesome.

Re: Lift Kit opinions
I have Rough Country 4", was cheap and has worked well so far, rides a little stiff but not bad. I would get the steering correction though, my steering wheel is a little off. They have good customer service, I lost my front axle harware kit before I installed the lift and they send me a new one the next day for free.

Re: Lift Kit opinions
I had a rough country once. Rough country means rides rougher than any truck in the county stay away. I like the tuff country front springs and the ord shackle reversal for the rear. If money wasn't an issue I would go with deaver's in the front and the ord shackle in the rear.

Re: Lift Kit opinions
Mudder used BDS springs I think... 4" with 33's does look pretty good.
I am doing narrow 33's with no lift. But I have HD springs in the front and added a leaf in the rear...

Re: Lift Kit opinions
LOL I wondered about that. They are inexpensive, and they have free shipping right now. Just thought I'd inquire, but I will go with another brand. What is deavers? Never heard of them. I'll have to do a search.

Re: Lift Kit opinions
Have you checked Suspension Connection? You`ll be amazed at the total cost of an all spring lift including everything you need. You get what you pay for for less.Their quality is every bit as good,if not better, than Skyjacker and they are in Utah. The shipping would be alot cheaper for where you are, too.

Re: Lift Kit opinions
For deaver springs talk to these guys. Like I said they are not cheap but you will get a truck that will ride and work like no other. WWW. dixonbrosracing.com and do a search.

Re: Lift Kit opinions
Yep, the deaver springs are spendy. I also checked out the suspension connection and they have a decent kit. Looks like I'll go that route. They have an option of a "heavy duty" spring package, or their EZ-ride springs. Guess'n the EZ-ride would be the way to go. The actual kit mfg. is Tuff Country. Won't be hauling anything. And it won't be for mudd'n, we don't get enough rain around here. But snow.....that might be fun.

Re: Lift Kit opinions
Good deal you will like the tuff country lift. For a moderate 4x4 that should be a good set-up. Post up some pics as you get started and keep us up to date on your project.

Re: Lift Kit opinions
I kind of lucked out finding this thing. I'm technically the 3rd owner. It had been sitting in a dark quanset for the last 20 years. There are a few small dents, but this was used as a farm truck for a while. Of course the tailgate was toast. I'm guessing most people backed up by feel or sound back then. LOL Odometer shows 53,500. Can't say for sure this is original miles, but judging from the interior, it could be. I have a few pics of it still in the quanset the first time I saw it, I need to find and I'll attach.

Re: Lift Kit opinions
nice find on that truck... grille guard too.
I know you haven't mentioned it... but don't mess with body lifts.... I have used one on an S-10 and it came out ok but lots of little adjustments/mods for very little ground clearance gain...

Re: Lift Kit opinions
Nice find on that SuperCustom.Prolly is original miles. Are those 16" rims that were on it?Yeah,Suspension Connection and TuffCountry are one in the same.Just one is marketing, the other manufacturing. But,tha`s why the price is so good.I used the 6" EZ-Ride system on my Highlander. It had busted up leafs and had been pretty beat.I haul a bit with it and it handles that fine.I think it rides great, too.I see a rough spot I can`t avoid and expect to get jarred and it just sucks it up.I used the 4" EZ-Rides on my`91 Suburban and it always is loaded with Carpwntry tools.I also tow a trailer from time to time.I`ve had it pretty loaded and the springs handle it fine.On that one I got Rancho 9000RSXs that are adjustable.I use the softest setting unless I`m totally loaded or towing.I used to haul three other guys to work, too.I`m very pleased with these springs.

Beauty truck eh. West Butte huh. May check in the Dillon area if looking for parts. There is a tiny wrecking yard behind the Town Pump. Looks like all farm machinery, but the old guy has gold hidden in the bushes. Found a nice 67 front clip in there when I lived in Dillon. As far as the lift kit, stay away from rough country, not very helpful customer service in my experience. Plus you need a kidney belt to ride in your truck after the install.

Re: Lift Kit opinions
I don't care for the 6" BDS. It's too stiff. The pro Comps aren't helping.(shocks). I like Tuff Country's ride with the rancho 9000's.
