4.8L in our trucks?

Has anyone seen one of the new 4.8s transplanted into our trucks? I was driving my sisters 07 1500 today and realized that those little things have some serious GET UP. I was driving tonight and broke them loose going 35. Has anyone seen the numbers these little motors are making?

Re: 4.8L in our trucks?

The 4.8 is nothing to scoff at. But if you are going through the trouble of putting the LSX style engine in and the wiring then you might as well go with the 5.3 or 6.0. They make more HP and TQ and get about the same mileage.

Re: 4.8L in our trucks?

If you have one, 4.8 or 5.3 and all the trimmins, they make a very nice addition/power plant for our trucks. A few tweaks required, but the 4.8 should be a great motor for your truck if you already have it, go for it.

Re: 4.8L in our trucks?

5.7 in mine out of a 2001 Firebird WS6.

There are several threads here (and poject threads) covering what is required, where to hunt the info, etc. Search the forum for: GenIII

Lots of reading to do this swap. It's not too hard though. Worst part is a) trying to get the engine bolted, b) find headers that will work and c) getting the wiring hacked and computer reprogrammed.

Re: 4.8L in our trucks?

I wasn't planning on transplanting myself. I have a nice 350 in mine. I was just wondering how the 4.8s power such big vehicles so easily with such small displacement.

Re: 4.8L in our trucks?

2k is worth it, I would buy. Drop another $2k on peripherals it and you've basically got a bolt-in affair on your hands. Go from 8-12mpg to 22-28mpg in less than a week if you work diligently.
