Rust Coatings

Hey guys,

I did a search on this one and I am still up in the air on all the rust inhibitors/encapsulators,etc. I wanted to post up a poll and see if others here have used more than one of these items and if you noticed a difference.

My main goin is to coat my floors (inside and out) and the inside of my firewall and up under the dash. I am not worried about UV sensitivity because you are not going to see it and this is my DD. I have used POR-15 and it seems to work pretty well. I have had it peel a couple of times in real small areas but it looked great! I have never used any of the others. Seems like most are about $40/quart now. eek!

Please chime in and post your favorite.

Thanks!
Mike

Re: Rust Coatings

Yes, just wondering about the other products. Seems there are so many mixed reviews so I wanted to see what others say about the other products if they use them.

Re: Rust Coatings

I ordered mine right from the factory- http://www.nomorerust.com/pricelist.html and it goes on real nice. A little goes a long way. I used the silver sealer with the ag111 satin black top coat (they sell it as a kit for chassis for around $65) and am really happy with the results. As for how it holds up, I'll have to let you know in a couple of years.

Re: Rust Coatings

I've been using Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. So far it seems real good and it doesn't require the special prep and application that POR-15 does.

Re: Rust Coatings

RUSTBULLET!! Hands down is THE best product for rust inhibitors, period. You can spray it on, brush it on, Sand it down and even paint over it, cause it will stop rust in it's tracks.
Do I work for them? Nope. Have I used it on my own truck? Yes.

I did a lot of research on these types of products before I bought anything and I kept noticing that POR-15 had a lot of steps just to make sure it worked correctly. I also noticed that a lot of complaints were that it "peeled" or didn't adhere to the metal or this and that. So I jumped on Rustbullets sight and bought their product. Figured it couldn't hurt and by what I read I was, and still am, Impressed.
Don't have any pics at this time but hopefully, within the next couple of weeks, I will.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!

I followed your link, but when I clicked on product info it loaded a blank page. I hit the refresh and nothing…..

Re: Rust Coatings

You might want to look at Zerorust, too. Autobodystore.com did some testing against POR-15 and Zerorust protected better in his tests.

Re: Rust Coatings

No matter what you use, there's going to be some prep work. Don't think you can just buy the stuff and spray it over loose rust, dirt or grease and expect it to adhere correctly. All the products are some type encapsulator that prevents air from reaching the metal. For this to work, the coating has to be pretty tough. I'd say it all works good if your prep is adequate. I prefer POR-15 because I can beat it with a hammer and it doesn't come off. I've never had it peel and I have used a bunch of it on brackets, firewalls, frames, an underbody, marine applicatios on boat slips, rims, etc... But I still bet they all work because they are all chasing POR-15, and, it works!

Re: Rust Coatings

My choice is for rust bullet. It sprays on great and smooths everything out. I sprayed my frame and front suspension components with it and am impressed with how it turned out. There are pics in my build thread.
