I need your help

My 72 was stolen a few months back and I am looking at a 67 to replace it. Here is what I found. 1967 big window, 292 6 cyl with the 3 on the tree shifter, short bed fleetside. everything works on this truck, even the washer fluid squirter and it runs very well. It has been in a shed for the past 17 years and will need brake work, gas tank cleaned, paint work and etc. I could only find one spot of rust on the passenger side about the size of a pea. The speedo shows 11,000 miles. I would be buying it from the daughter of the origanel owner. Look at the pictures and tell me what I am not seeing or need to look at. What should this truck cost me? How much should I pay?

That's a shortbed? Looks long to me. Anyway, the interior looks great. Cab corners and floor board are key places to look for rust. Also the cowl area behind the heater case and under the cowl panel collect pine needles and such and rust out up there. My 69's only rust problem was just that. Rust had eaten away all the way around the heater blower motor seal. I ended up replacing the whole cowl on mine to get rid of the rust. Me? I'd offer up to 900 and see what happens.

It is a shortbox. That camper makes it look huge. However, it has protected the bed all these years. I pulled up the rubber mat and looked for rust, looked inside the cab corner and looked for rust. I couldnt find any.

1g at most. How long will it run without replacing everything? $600 was the most I ever paid for a rusty running inline. Keep purchase low but have plenty to work with when buying a stock rust'knownot'howbaditis truck. You probably won't get hurt if you pay low. My 67 way 375 with running corvette 350 and good turbo 400. Be patient if in doubt.

Re: I need your help

Offered $1k, I'd laugh and close the door, shortbeds are getting expensive.

Re: I need your help

that'd go for a lot more than a grand around here. Defenatly a SWB. I'd offer a grand and say I wasn't sure what it's worth, and if he jumps at it, then you did pretty good, if he laughs, you'll quickly get a better idea what they want.

Re: I need your help

I appreciate the feedback. I have been looking for a replacement trucks for a few months and have found several available. However, none this origanal or none that were not complete rust buckets. I really did crawl under it, on top of it and etc and found that one little spot under the door. Even the drip rails are solid. Surley its worth more than a grand?? I think it would take $2,500 to buy it from them. Perhaps I will keep lookin.

Re: I need your help

bro, that looks pretty clean for what is out there these days. i would offer 1500. that is a substantial offer for the condition of the truck. they could ebay it and make more but then they would have to figure xfer fees. if this is right down your block they should bite at the offer and if they only nibble then you know where you stand.

Re: I need your help

I'd be all over that! It's straight, and that's what costs $$. Almost anyone can do mechanical upgrades themselves. It's the bodywork that eats up your money. I'd definitely pay $1500 for that truck. Set aside some $ for front disc and suspension stuff and drive it. Anything that old will need brakes and rubber stuff replaced anyway, so why not start out with something that hasn't been hacked on by someone else.

Re: I need your help

Depends on what you are looking for...the truck is a great value at $1500 or even $2500, if it is as sound as it appears. But then again, you are used to a later model truck with all the comforts.
Do you want a project? For power disc brakes you will have to dig up a later model clip... if it was power steer, it was ram style and that means a bunch of front end mods, too (can't tell if it was power steer but if it was, it was ram style).... you will have to learn where the e-brake is... can't just buy any '67-72 parts...1967 and 1972 varied from the rest of the years.
But from an investment standpoint, the truck is worth striving for...even a 6 banger can haul a*ss but it will surely be more "truckish"...that's my 2 cents...ET

Heck, in retrospect, I should/would have bought a $1500 truck just for the body!

Re: I need your help

Well I made the call and $1,500 wouldn't do it. said it would take $2,500 to make it happen. I like the truck, except the camper shell and realize it will need some TLC to be road worthy. I have a 69 GMC to look at today and them I will decide.
