70 SWB Interior Choices to Finish Build
Approaching the phase in the build where I need to start making final choices about what I'm doing for the interior.
The truck is a low mileage original, being repainted the factory colors but I'm undecided as to go with the stock interior which would be green or change it to black. Needs an entire interior, so going either way makes little difference. The other option I was considering is doing the seat in hounds tooth. The future for this truck is to sell it, so with that in mind which interior would sell better/best and of course, which way might bring the higher dollar amount? Here's a link to the build thread if you care to read it, it's been a three year on/off affair. Current status pics are in the thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=115613 |

Re: 70 SWB Interior Choices to Finish Build
I would not put black in it. To me it would make the interior rather blah. I would go with the medium green, or even buckskin would look good. If you look at the market in new trucks, the current trend is toward light colored interiors.
The hounds touth idea sounds cool, but I don't know if that would have an impact when you try to sell it.

Keep it original. It`ll look good, too.I never liked the colored interiors as much as I do now that they don`t do it anymore.

Re: 70 SWB Interior Choices to Finish Build
If you are going to sell it as original I would put it back to whatever it came with. My truck is a dark green stock color with a black interior. Honestly I think a green interior would look better than the black, but I'm keeping it the way the original owner ordered it up.

Re: 70 SWB Interior Choices to Finish Build
The houndstooth would increase the value to somebody who likes the less than everyday appeal of these trucks, but would most likely hurt the value to a true collector or to a casual "I just want an old truck" type, in my opinion. I agree with above, go back with green in a green truck, black looks funny if it doesn't match the color of the cab.

Re: 70 SWB Interior Choices to Finish Build
My personal favorite is the hounds tooth, BUT whatever is called out on the glove box door/SPID, is what I would go with. Maybe that isn't even called out, I don't know. I think I would agree with the majority and go with the green only because it's original. Now the other thing I would consider is availability.
After reading this I realize that I am not much help...but that's my $.02. Good luck with your decision.

Re: 70 SWB Interior Choices to Finish Build
I would go green but I am biased. My Pops had a 2wd truck in this exact color combo. I hated it then, but I have a soft spot for it now. I guess time makes the heart grow fonder.

Re: 70 SWB Interior Choices to Finish Build
Here is a 72 Sierra Grande w/19K original in green houndstooth. It all matches. Also I am attaching my 69 low mileage truck with original doorpanels and the saddle houndstooth. The problem is to get everything to match. Black usually all has the same dye color. I used my original doorpanels as the repros had even another shade that did not match my seat or the dash pad so I was adding a third color so I thought I would put my original ones in.
From an originality perspective, if the interior is era correct, most people do not mind a color change as long as they like it. But as someone else listed, black is bland with the exception of a houndstooth seat. Last edited by John H.; 01-02-2008 at 07:22 AM. |

Re: 70 SWB Interior Choices to Finish Build
If you aren't striving for an all original resto, I think black would be too dark. People like to see the details and contrasts and black would hide them. I think the medium or dark green or saddle/brown idea would sell and look a little better.

Re: 70 SWB Interior Choices to Finish Build
That appears to be far too nice a truck to change from the original color and depreciate the value. Think that green houndstooth might appreciate the value tho..................JMO

Re: 70 SWB Interior Choices to Finish Build
If I went off the original path to get a fabric,I`d go with the 69/70 "Custom Cloth".I just think using houndstooth on a 69/70 is like putting a Cheyenne badge on a CST.It`s just cool for what it is in that year.

Re: 70 SWB Interior Choices to Finish Build
I know people that have walked away from a color change on an original vehical. You made mention that you want to sell this truck and if this is still the case keep the original color interior. Anyone who desires an original truck would want the truck to be correct and that goes for the interior color as well. The problem with redoing an interior and changing colors is the the new owner is not going to tear out a new interior to correct the color so he or she will have to live with it. Not many people want to do this or have the money to correct this mistake. To a degree it creates creditability issues as well.
