I have come to the point that I need to do the bed in the dually project. I have checked out about everyone on the site, internet and Ebay. It looks like $415 delivered is about the best I can do. (No pre drilled holes and final sanding required)

Anyone have a link or contact for anyone cheaper...... or in the southeast that I can save shipping and pick it up???

I got the wood for my 64 C10 short/fleet from Buettner Bros. Supply in Cullman, AL for $233.38. It was red oak, cut to length, with grooves already routered. All I had to do was cut the four short pieces that go around the wheel openings and drill holes.

I see you are in Marietta also, and I swear I think I've seen your Green Suburban in my neighborhood...do you live in Tuxedo Estates?

OK guys this is funny!!!!! This member literally lives 5 houses away from me (for a good while) and we meet on the forum for the first time today!

Yep........thats me!!! One of the last houses in the neighborhood. White columns. You are the grey short bed and Chevelle/Malibu. Ive stopped by a time or 2 but you were not home. Me and my buddy with the white conv. 1964 Cutlass were wondering how long it would take for us neighborhood motor heads to finally meet!!! We see you drive by now and again..Ive also seen you on GA400 in the truck. You will have to stop by now!!!

UPDATE...they do still cut it....but they do not have material for a "Longhorn"

Too funny...yes, that's my 64 C10 and 69 Malibu. Your trucks must be in that shop in the woods out behind your house. I always wondered what was going on out there

My truck is currently at my in-law's lake house over in Alabama where I'm replacing the transmission. I'm bringing it home in 2-3 weeks, so you're welcome to stop by any time and see if you like how the bed turned out.

I've bumped into the guy with the Cutlass convertible a time or two...he and his wife seem like nice folks.

check this http://www.gmcpauls.com/47-72_BedWood_Info.htm I would think you could just add the difference LB to Longhorn and possibly cut yourself or find a carpenter temp. out of work(housing slump) and do it yourself. Worth lookin into!

Looks like I am back looking for a cheap set of wood.......I called three of our local lumber yards today and was quoted between $270 - $360 for enough wood (Ash, Red Oak or Pine). This wood still needed to be cut down, length and width and would have to be have to grooves cut in them.

Thats definalty not the way im going to go.

If you get the boards sawed at a saw mill and dry it yourself would be the only way to really save over buying it made.You`d also get a wider choice of wood.Not a good time to dry wood though w/o a kiln.I haven`t priced it lately.But,I have a saw mill right up the road and I can get red or white oak cheap...green.There`s a guy that I can get to kiln dry for pennies per board ft.But,I`d buy it made if I didn`t have a special wood in mind.You`d prolly do best buying it from the closest vendor to save shipping on those oversize boards.

Im sure itwould work fine......It would need to be dry and you would probably have to plain down 2x stock to find boards wide enough.

We dont have anyone close that is selling them, other than maybe Year One.....and I could probably buy 2 kits and ship them for the price they are probably going to charge.

Did you try American Classic Truck Parts? They show a pine board set for a longhorn at $332; not sure about shipping costs

I will look at their site.........that is about the average low end price I am finding with about an $80+ delivery charge.

Pressure treated wood is commonly Wolmanized with a copper azole preservative and is highly corrosive to steel (through electrolysis)...NOT a good choice IMHO.
