Looking at another one!!
I am looking at purchasing a CUCV, mainly for the axles to go under my 82 4x4 swb that I want to build into a very capable offroad machine. I got to thinking about the CUCV and what I would do with it after I took the axles and here are a couple of scenarios:
All have to do with making a tow rig/DD and I have another 14 bolt and I would convert the current 10 bolt under the 82 to 8 lug. 1:Rebuild 6.2 w/minor mods to make it worthy 2:Swap in a later model diesel 3:Swap in a 6.0 liter gas There are advantages and disadvantages to each one. Diesel is expensive right now, gas is a little cheaper. Gas mileage between the different fuels would need to be researched. Better pulling with diesel and no emissions if I get orders back to Cali, unless that has recently changed. I would like to get everyone elses opinion or other options.

Re: Looking at another one!!
Does anybody sell a crate 6.5 diesel?
Even though diesel cost more per gallon you will get way better mileage with one. Im thinking the next time I swap motors I would like to go diesel. I dont know how expensive the swap would be though. As far as swapping in a 6L gas you might as well swap in a 350 gas. It would be cheaper and work just as good. A friend has a 1996 6L and it doesnt work any better than a 350. Actually my truck will out pull his. |
