6L80E swap

Has any one thought about putting a 6l80e behind a gen III motor swap. It sounds kind of cool to have 6 gears. I thought of puting a lq9 and a 6l80e into my 67 c10.

Not happening without a LOT of work. The 6L80E uses a separate TCM from the ECM of the GenIII engines, and they use a different communication protocol, so they will not talk to one another.

Also, to my knowledge, at this time there are no stand alone 6 speed controllers available at this time.

I'd be all over it, otherwise!

i beleive a E38 PCM and the TCM for that trans will work just fine...im currently talking to a customer of mine about this trans....its not a huge pain, like mentioned, but will require some computer and tuning knowledge...also john at speartech, makes a harness for just this, i think its 750$ well worth the $ if you dont wanna fool with anything..

The E40 was used on LS2 motors with the 24X reluctor, vs. the E38 LS2 engines with the 58X reluctor.

You'd need to either use an E40 set up for 24X or swap reluctor wheels on the LQ9.

Orrrrr, you could get some more 710 for your flux capasitor and simply bypass the hooter with a dial barometer...Sheesh, you guys shoulda asked me sooner...

Just yank the whole drivetrain out of a wrecked 07+ 6.2L denali or caddy. 400HP and 6 gears

If GM would ever get off their ass and offer the 6 speed on the 4.8 and 5.3L 1/2 ton trucks and SUV's, it would be a lot easier. It was supposed to be on the '08's but it's been pushed back to '09.

That was a good read! Speartech even states that a 69 C10 would be the perfect platform for this swap!

Man, that's a steep first gear! You could run a 2.73 rear gear and still launch harder than a 4.11 with a TH400! And with 6th gear still have a similar ratio as a T-56 with a 3.73!

But with such a wide spread between first and second gear it would be worse than a 700-r4. You would launch, then bog unless the engine hooked up to it has a W-I-D-E torque curve.

Thats the set-up I would like to have, all stock for a daily driver. Whenever someone gets this installed in a 67-72 I would like to know what all you have to get and where to get it.

Yes, it is. So steep, that GM doesn't offer a rear gear any higher than a 3.42 on the new Sierra Denali's and it can still beat/compete with (magazines all come up with different track #'s) the 4.30 rear geared Tundra's.

A Sierra Denali would be a neck snapping rocket with a 4.10.
