Pics of my 65 short build
I've owed you guys some pics of my ride for a while now. I appreciate all the help I've got, and finally made it out to the shop with a camera. I'll provide a write up later on where I'm headed with it.
Thanks a ton guys. |

Re: Pics of my 65 short build
Hey thanks for the compliments guys. Man do I love these trucks. Ever since I was a young teen, and my Uncle pulled up in his 66 fleet with a nice purring 350, 4 speed, I had to have one. I lucked out on this truck, seen it sitting for months with a forsale sign on it a mile from home. I stopped, it had a 400 sbc with a T10 4 speed. Body is pretty fair shape. Truck ran pretty well, but you could tell it had some small problems. It had some huge truck tires on it, guy was driving back and forth to work in it and wanted gas mileage. I bought it for $2200 and drove it home. After working on the engine, I noticed the carb gasket was sucked in, making it run bad, so after a new Holley 650 double pump, the thing ran great. But I had to change the sound, so I put a dual Flowmaster exhaust with an H pipe in it, now I had the sound I wanted, but it was way too tall off the ground. So I bought the BF Goodrich tires and put those fat meats on there and put 2" drop springs in the front and 3" drops in the back. Now I had something I was really happy with. And I probably wouldn't have done much else with it for a while, but the oil pressure was dropping real bad at idle when the truck was warm. So being a long time circle track racer, instead of just replacing the bearings in the bottom end, I felt compelled to pull the motor, buy a rotating assembly, put a big cam and heads in it (use up some circle track parts I have laying around) and get me some thumping going on under the hood. When I finish with the new 406 I'll put some more pics on hear. Now my mouth is starting to water....LOL.

Re: Pics of my 65 short build
I just picked up a set of heads for my 406 motor build. There a set of Air Flow Research 190cc aluminum heads. Used, but the research I did on them show they have potential to build a lot of power. Aluminum will allow me to run a bit more compression on pump gas as well.

Re: Pics of my 65 short build
The plan is to setup the 406 with flat top pistons and 6" rods. With the head combo, and the blocked decked 0, it should put out about 10.3:1 CR. A set of left over shaft rockers from a circle track motor, solid lift cam (.518 in .530 ex.) Should make this thing a street monster. I'm only scared cause I haven't updated the brakes, may need some stopping power...LOL.

Re: Pics of my 65 short build
I'm a big fan of the 406's....that's going to be a bada$$ one you're building And with that T10 it'll be a fun ride. Yeah I'll bet the brakes will be next on the list.
